KING'S SOFTBALL HOSTING DESALES IN IMPORTANT FREEDOM CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER
WILKES-BARRE -- It may only be the first week of April, but it is hardly too early to label the King's College vs. Misericordia University softball doubleheader as "important". Two of the top contenders in the Freedom Conference will square off at 3:00 p.m. in the Betzler Athletic Complex in a twin bill which could greatly impact the post-season conference playoffs.

King's enters the matchup with a 7-9 overall record and a 2-2 Freedom Conference mark after a split with DeSales University Thursday in a rematch of the 2009 Freedom Conference title game. The Lady Monarchs will continue their rugged early-season conference slate against Misericordia, the 2009 regular-season Freedom titlist and 2010 conference favorite according to the pre-season league coaches poll. The Cougars are 9-6 and 3-1 in league play after a sweep of Wilkes last week.
King's is led by senior pitcher Lindsey Hoerner who is 6-4 with a 3.31 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 61 innings. Hoerner is also batting a team-high .395 (17-43) with three home runs, three doubles, and 11 RBI. Freshman outfielder Kaitlin Siegfried follows at .370 (17-46) with two home runs, four doubles, and 15 RBI. Junior third-baseman Gretchen Tholen stands at .364 (16-44) with four doubles, two triples, and nine RBI. Senior shortstop Meaghan Galvin chips in at .321 (18-56) with two doubles and 12 RBI.
Misericordia is led by senior shortstop Courtney Novajosky who is batting .396 (19-48) with six steals. Senior first-baseman Gina Urbon follows at .341 (14-41) with four RBI while junior third-baseman Hollie Sarnak stands at .319 (15-47) with two doubles, one home run, and nine RBI. Sophomore outfielder Maria Kidron contributes with a .297 (11-37) mark including a double. The pitchers are led by senior Kat Lucenti who is 5-5 with a 2.76 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 71 innings.
