HOERNER REPEATS AS FREEDOM CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE YEAR AS THREE LADY MONARCHS SOFTBALL PLAYERS NAMED ALL-CONFERENCE
ANNVILLE -- King's College standout Lindsey Hoerner was named the 2010 Freedom Conference “Pitcher of the Year” for the second straight year. Hoerner's selection highlights a list of three King's players who were named to the All-Freedom Conference squad, released Monday by the Middle Atlantic Conferences Office.
Hoerner was also named to the All-Freedom first-team as a pitcher. She was joined on the first-team by freshman outfielder Kaitlin Siegfried. The final King's selection was senior shortstop Meaghan Galvin.
Hoerner (Annville/Northern Lebanon) is putting the wraps on an outstanding career at King's where he has been a three-time first-team all-conference selection. After leading King's to its second straight Freedom Conference title and the third in her four years, Hoerner was named the Freedom Conference Tournament most valuable player on Saturday for the third time in her career.
This season she has a 15-9 record and a 2.81 earned-run average with 148 strikeouts in 157 innings of work. At the plate, she posted a .385 (40-104) batting average with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 28 RBI. She also tallied a .642 slugging percentage with a .472 on-base average.
Siegfried (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic) enjoyed a solid rookie year in which she started all 37 games she played in, primarily in left field. She posted a .300 (36-120) average with 29 runs, five doubles, one triple, and two home runs, while driving in 24 runs, the second most on the team.
Galvin (Washingtonville, NY/John S. Burke) was a shocking omission from the first team after enjoying a superb senior year. A 2009 first-team All-Freedom pick and NFCA Regional All-American, King's starting shortstop and leadoff hitter batted .382 (50-131) with six doubles, one triple, one home run, 21 RBI and scored a team-high 34 runs. Galvin was one of only three players in the conference to have at least 50 hits during the season and also finished second in the conference in runs scored.
