King's Places 42 on MAC Spring All-Academic Team, Finishes Year with 109 Total Selections

KING'S PLACES 42 ON MAC SPRING ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS

 

ANNVILLE – A total of 42 King's College student-athletes have been named to the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference All-Academic Team, the MAC Office announced. Combining 54 fall sport and 13 winter sport selections, King's closed out the 2009-10 year with 109 student-athletes gaining All-MAC academic honors.

 

In order to be nominated for selection, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.20 overall grade-point average and be at least a sophomore in class standing.  Freshman are not eligible for selection.   King's 42 selections were the third most among the 16 MAC member schools in the spring.

 

Nominations were due in early May and the most recent grades utilized for selections were GPA's through the 2009 fall semester. Final grades through the second semester were not utilized due to the nomination deadline.

 

The King's women's tennis team led the way with 11 players selected,  junior Megan Anascavage (Nazareth/Nazareth Area), junior Jennifer Bader (E. Stroudsburg/E.S. South) junior Lauren Breen (E. Stroudsburg/Notre Dame), junior Maria Cometa (Pittston/Pittston Area), sophomore Cynthia Darby (Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central), sophomore Diana Darby (Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central), junior  Rachel Hoffnagle (Enola/East Pennsboro), senior Christy Rossowski (Allentown/Central Catholic), junior Jillian Tallarico (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic), junior Lindsay Warburton (Holbrook, NY/St. John the Baptist), and senior Courtnay Wilson (Meriden, CT/O.H. Platt). Hoffnagel posted the highest grade-point average among all women's tennis player with a 3.98 cumulative GPA, while Cynthia Darby was third with a 3.92

 

The Monarch baseball had six players chosen, including junior Peter Fanning (Clarks Summit/Abington Heights), senior Eric Matula (Cresco/Pocono Mt. East), junior Kyle Melfe (Walkill, NY/Walkill), junior Tommy Rozelle (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton), sophomore Dave Sandrowicz (Swoyersville/Holy Redeemer), and senior Matt Unger (Orangeburg, NY/Tappan Zee).  Fanning posted the highest grade-point average among all baseball players with a 3.92 overall GPA.

 

King's men's lacrosse team also had six players selected, including junior Dan Carducci (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep), sophomore Justin Delsordo (Wallingford/Strath Haven), sophomore Anthony DiSalvo (Bensalem/Penn Charter), senior Alan Matusiewicz (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), junior Sean Rulon (Landing, NJ/Roxbury), and junior Evan Seward (Alexandria, VA/Gonzaga).

 

The Lady Monarch softball team had four players named to the squad, including senior Meaghan Galvin (Washingtonville, NY/John S. Burke Catholic), senior Lindsey Hoerner (Annville/Northern Lebanon), senior Christie Parfitt (Philadelphia/St. Hubert), and junior Gretchen Tholen (Goshen, CT/Holy Cross).

 

King's men's tennis team had five players selected, including sophomore Tim Carroll (Ransomville, NY/Wilson), senior David Chen (Hazleton/Hazleton Area), senior Jonathan Ferrie (Sparta, NJ/Pope John), senior Joseph Guza (Hazleton/Hazleton Area), and junior Marco Stallone (Exeter/Wyoming Area).

Five members of the Monarch golf squad were named, including sophomore Justin Eimers (Hunlock Creek/Lake Lehman), sophomore Matthew Federowicz (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), sophomore Gerald Lewis (Iselin, NJ/St. Joseph's),  senior Mike Wagner (Shickshinny/Northwest Area), and sophomore Chris Skevofilax (Dallas/Dallas Area). Wagner posted the second-highest GPA amongst all golfers with a 3.94 GPA and was named the 2010 MAC Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

 

The women's lacrosse team rounded out the list of players chose with three selections, including senior Shannon Ellis (Lansdowne/Upper Darby), junior Allison Gourniak (Allentown/Central Catholic), and junior Katie Mangan (Nescopek/Berwick). Ellis was the lone women's lacrosse player with a perfect 4.0 GPA and was named the 2010 MAC Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
