KING'S NAMES VINCE SCALZO ASSISTANT SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR

WILKES-BARRE — King's College Director of Sports Information Bob Ziadie has announced former Monarch basketball standout Vince Scalzo has been named the to the newly-created position of Assistant Director of Sports Information at the college. At King's, he will assist in publicizing and promoting King's 19 NCAA Division III varsity sports.

While at King's, Scalzo helped guide the Monarchs to the most successful four-year tenure in program history with four straight berths in the Freedom Conference playoffs. A two-time all-conference selection, Scalzo was a four-year starter for a program that won three Freedom Conference championships with three NCAA Division III national tournament berths in 2005, 2007, and 2008. He currently ranks as the ninth all-time leading scorer in King's men's basketball history with 1,292 points.

While at King's, Scalzo also worked as a student-aide in the college's sports information office for three years before serving a 10-month internship during his senior year. A three-time MAC All-Academic selection in basketball, Scalzo graduated from King's in 2008 with a degree in Mass Communications. He was then hired as the full-time director of sports information at Randolph College in Virginia, a member of the highly-respected Old Dominion Athletic Conference.  After two years at Randolph, Scalzo elected to return home and rejoin his alma-mater when the opportunity presented itself.

“I am very excited about my new position at King's and being back in the Wyoming Valley,” Scalzo said.  “I truly enjoyed my time as a Monarch during my undergraduate years both in the classroom and on the court.  I am looking forward to helping publicize King's College Athletics and supporting our student-athletes as I was supported during my playing career.”

While at Randolph, he was responsible for all sports information functions and utilized StatCrew Sports Software live during games. Additionally, Scalzo initiated Randolph's first usage of LiveStats in men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's lacrosse.

A native of Shickshinny, Scalzo is also a 2004 graduate of Northwest Area where he was a three-time Wyoming Valley Conference all-star in basketball.

“We are very happy to have Vince back at King's and he will be an outstanding addition to the sport information department as well as the college community,” Ziadie stated. “Having worked in our sports information office previously for four years, he knows our athletic programs and a number of our coaches very well. Vince made the most of a great opportunity at a very young age when he was hired at Randolph where he had to work independently and continue to learn the profession at a young age. He is a dedicated individual who cares about King's and will do a super job for us.”
