KING'S MEN'S SOCCER ELIMINATED FROM CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT ON PENALTY KICKS

ST. DAVIDS, PA --- The third-seeded King's College men's soccer team was eliminated from the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Tournament when they fell 4-1 in penalty kicks to host second-seeded Eastern University at Olson Field on Tuesday afternoon in St. Davids. The game officially is a 0-0 double overtime draw but the Eagles advance to the Championship game on penalty kicks.

The Monarchs season comes to a disappointing end with a 9-8-2 record.

The game was very competitive with both team gaining quality opportunities to give their squad a lead however neither team was able to find the back of the net as they settled for a 0-0 draw. Ryan Romeo put a shot on goal just 2:49 into the game but the Eagle keeper was able to come up with a save. The Monarchs were able to dictate the flow of the game for the first 15 minutes. Eastern countered in the second 15 minutes with four corners and four shots but the King's defense held strong. The teams went back and forth in the final 15 of the first half with neither being able to fully dictate the flow of the game.

In the second half the Monarchs came out strong and controlled possession for much of the first 20 minutes of the half. Ryan Romeo nearly gave King's a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute when Kevin Mazol found him in the box from a corner kick and the keeper out of position but his shot was knocked away by an Eastern defender to keep the game scoreless. The teams exchanged blows the rest of regulation but neither team was able to score. Steven Valencia kicked a rocket from a little outside the box with just under 2:30 left in regulation but his shot sailed just wide of net.

In overtime the teams once again exchanged blows like they did at the end of the second half with both teams having quality looks at goal but neither team was able to find the back of the net sending the game into penalty kicks.

Eastern converted their first kick while Fabio Massa's shot was saved by the Eagles keeper giving Eastern a 1-0 advantage after the first round. In the second round the Eagles were once again able to convert their attempt while Kevin Mazol was not able to convert his attempt as the Eagles took a 2-0 lead. After the Eagles converted their third attempt Keegan Fees stepped up and kept the Monarchs hopes alive when he converted his attempt. However Eastern clinched their third consecutive MAC Freedom Championship game appearance on their next attempt when Colin Furlong found the back of the net.

The Eagles held a 16-11 shot advantage in the game but the Monarchs had more quality looks as they held a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Eastern received nine corner kicks compared the three for King's.

Owen Geedey made three saves in goal to record his eighth shutout of the year. Ryan Romeo had three shots while Brendan Raab, Philip Kistner, and Fabio Massa each had a shot on goal for Kings.
