KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS FALL TO TOP-SEEDED FDU IN FREEDOM TOURNEY SEMI-FINALS
MADISON, NJ -- The top-seeded FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team overcame an early 2-1 deficit by scoring 10 unanswered goals to post a 14-4 victory over visiting King's College in a Freedom Conference Tournament semi-final matchup Wednesday night in Madison, NJ.
With the win FDU improved to 12-6 while King's ended its season with a 6-10 mark.
After FDU opened the scoring just 2:45 into the game, King's countered when Gabriella Morrocu scored off a pass from Amanda Carroll to tie the score 1:16 later. The Monarchs then took a 2-1 lead on a unassisted goal by Anastasia Araviakis with 21:18 left to play in the first half.
But from there the Devils dictated play and closed out the half with a 8-0 run thanks to three goals from Breanna Reasoner and two by Joelle Manganello as the Devils took a 8-2 lead into the break.
FDU kept the pressure on at the start of the second half and scored the first three goals to push the score to 11-2. King's finally ended the Devils' 10-goal streak when Sarah Almony found the net off an assist by Morrocu with 14:15 left to make it a 11-3 game.
After another FDU score, Araviakis tallied her second goal of the game to bring the score to 12-4 with 13:20 to go. FDU, however, would score the final two goals of the game to set the final score.
Araviakis finished with two goals for King's while Morrocu added one goal and one assist. Almony also tallied one goal for the Lady Monarchs. King's goalie Victoria Zawacki made 11 saves in net.
Reasoner led FDU with five goals while Manganella added three goals and dished out five assists.
The Devils outshot King's 42-15 and held a 40-29 advantage in ground balls. King's owed a 11-9 lead in draws.
