KING'S SOFTBALL GOES 1-1 TO REMAIN ALOVE IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE TOURNEY
WILKES-BARRE -- Top-seeded, 20th ranked Manhattanville College overcame a three run deficit by scoring five runs in the fourth-though-sixth innings to post a 6-5 victory over fourth-seeded King's College in the opening game of the Freedom Conference Tournament Saturday at Wilkes University. King's, however, rallied to remain alive with a 3-1 victory over second-seeded Misericordia in an elimination game.
Manhattanville improved to 35-2 while King's slipped to 23-17 after the split Misericordia ends its season at 26-14.

In the opener King's took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Samantha Bloom reached base on an infield single and Kelcie Senchak drilled a two-run home run over he right centerfield fence.
Manhattanville cut the lead to 2-1 with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.
The Monarchs pushed the lead to 3-1 in the third inning when Senchak smacked her second home of the game over the right field fence.
The Valiants would tie up the game with two runs in the fourth on a RBI single by Alexis Ventarola and an infield ground out from Sophia Chapelone.
Manhattanville took a 5-3 lead in the fifth on a two-run double from Brittany Deieso.
King's cut the score to 5-4 in the sixth when Zina Knight reached first on a fielder's choice and scored on a RBI triple by Amber Saylor. In the bottom of the sixth Manhattanville countered with a solo home run by Chapalone to go up 6-4.
King's looked to rally in the seventh when Nicole Turner doubled and scored on another double by Lexi Wolk. But the Monarchs were unable to push across the game-tying run as Manhattanville held on for the win.
The Monarchs registered 12 hits, the most all season against Freedom Confernece "Pitcher of the Year" Alycia Sweeney. Senchak led King's by going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two home runs. DeTore finished 3-for-4 while Wolk was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a RBI. Saylor was 1-for-3 with a RBI triple.
Senchak took the pitching loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and seven walks.
In the nightcap King's rallied with three runs in the sixth and seventh innings as the Monarchs posted a 3-1 victory over Misericordia University in an elimination game at the Freedom Conference Tournament Saturday at Wilkes University. King's fell to top-seeded Manhattanvile 6-5 in its opening game.
Misericordia took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Abby Marzzacco walked, moved to third on a single by Melissa Parker, then core on a base hit by Caitlin Kennedy.
The Monarchs a took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Rachael DeTore singled, Alizabeth Ellsworth was hit by a pitch and Nicole Turner drilled a RBI double down the left field line.
King's added a run in the top-of-the-seventh when Megan Beaupre hit a solo home run off the left field foul pole to push the lead to 3-1.
Misericordia looked to rally in the bottom of the inning and had runners at first and third with two outs. But King's hurler struck out Melissa Parker on a 3-2 pitch to end the game.
Turner was 2-for-2 with a double for King's while DeTore finished 2-for-3 with a double. Beaupre was 1-for-3 with a home run. Linso picked up the with, allowing one run on seven hits.
For the Cougars Parker was 2-for-4 while Marzzacco finished 2-for-2 with a run.
King's will face FDU-Florham Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in an elimination ga,e with the wnner advancing to the championship at 1:00 p.m.
