Men's Basketball Set to Host Ramada Inn/Monarch Classic

KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON SATURDAY WITH RAMADA INN/MONARCH CLASSIC
 
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's basketball team will open the 2008-09 season on Saturday and Sunday when the annual Ramada Inn/Monarch Classic is held in King's Scandlon Gymnasium.
 
The tournament will begin with Widener University facing Montclair State Saturday at 6:00 p.m. King's will then meet New York City College of Technology in the 8:00 p.m. Nightcap. The tournament will resume Sunday with the consolation game at 1:00 p.m. with the championship game to follow at 3:00 p.m.

King's Tournament Notes:
The King's men's basketball team enters the 2008-09 campaign as the two-time defending Freedom Conference champion ... King's advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III national tournament a year ago ... This King's team bears little resemblance to the '07-08 squad as the Monarchs lost nine seniors to graduation ... Sophomore forward/center Kevin Conroy is the lone returning starter and averaged 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds last year in 29 games... Junior forward Jim Schule is back after averaging 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds with 22 assists in 29 games ... Junior guard Mike Wagner tallied 2.5 points in 16 games while making eight three-pointers ... Sophomore point-guard Adam Brasky averaged 1.2 points and 1.0 rebounds in 19 games ... No other returning player saw action in more than six games ... King's averaged 78.6 points per-game while allowing 69.0 each contest.
 
City Tech Tournament Notes:
The City Tech Yellow Jackets enter the 2008-09 season coming off a 8-19 season but are expecting bigger things thanks to the return of two dynamic scorers ... Leading the way for City Tech is senior guard Jamaal Hall who enjoyed a brilliant junior year by averaging 21.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists , and 2.2 steals each contest while draining 44 three-pointers ... Fellow senior guard Ryan Phillip was equally outstanding, averaging 20.5 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.8 steals ... Senior guard/forward Andrew Vaughn was sixth on the team in scoring last season with 2.9 points and 2.5 rebounds with 13 three-pointers ... Junior guard Calvin Williams, who saw action in 11 of the team's 27 games, is the only other returning player on the squad ... City Tech averaged 71.3 points a year ago while allowing 80.0 each contest.

Widener Tournament Notes:
Widener is defending Commonwealth Conference champion and advanced to the second round of the 2008 NCAA national tournament ... The Pride enter the 2008-09 season ranked seventh nationally by Small College Hoops and is also ranked 23rd by D3Hoops.com ... The Pride return their top four scorers and five of the top six from last season ... Senior guard Charles Jones averaged 15.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists with 35 three-pointers a year ago ... Senior guard Nyere Miller followed with 12.3 points, 2.4 boards, and 2.2 assists, including 68 treys ... Senior forward Matt Sosna added 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds ... Junior guard Bobby Edmunds tallied 9.2 points and 3.8 assists with 34 three-pointers ... Jamarr Johnson was sixth in scoring at 6.9 points with 4.9 boards ... A year ago the Pride averaged 74.8 points per-game, while allowing 64.5 each contest.

The Montclair State men's basketball team enters the 2008-09 season looking to improve upon the 16-11 record it compiled a year ago ... The Red Hawks return six of their top eight scorers, led by sophomore guard James Williams who averaged 13.6 points and 3.3 rebounds with 23 three-pointers as a rookie ... Junior guard Ken Dudley was the second leading scorer last year with 10.8 points while adding 3.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists ... Senior forward Carlos Pena was third on the squad with 8.1 points while adding 4.1 boards ... Senior center Ryan Washington was sixth on the squad with 5.9 points while tallying 5.4 rebounds and 37 blocks ... Senior forward Richard Brown was eighth on the team with 5.5 points and added 4.5 rebounds ... The Red Hawks averaged 73.0 points per-game while allowing 66.8 each contest a year ago.
