MONARCHS DOWN MORRISVILLE IN SUSQUAHANNA TOURNEY OPENER
SELINSGROVE -- Junior guard Mike Wagner scored a career-high 19 points as the King's College men's basketball team posted a 64-47 victory over Morrisville State in the opening round of the Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament at Susquehanna University Friday in Selinsgrove.
With the win, King's improved to 3-0 on the year while Morrisville slipped to 0-2.
King's will face the winner of the other first-round pairing between host Susquehanna and Penn College of Technology Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
King's would build a 38-27 halftime lead and never looked back as the Monarchs held the Mustangs to just 20 points in the second half. Wagner, meanwhile, made 7-of-12 shots from the field, including 3-of-8 from three-point range to pace the King's attack. Sophomore center Harry Schlichter also added a career-high 12 points to aid the Monarchs offensively.
Freshman Nick Reisig came off the bench to contribute eight points with five assists while Jim Schule tallied seven points, three assists, and three steals. Kevin Conroy netted six points while Chase McGowan chipped in with four points and five rebounds.
Morrisville was led by DaShawn Coleman with 14 points while Stephen Grant chipped in with eight. The Mustangs outrebounded KIng's 40-to-33 byt the Monarchs forced 21 turnovers.
