King's Women's Basketball Opens Tuesday Against Mount Aloysius

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The King's College women's basketball team opens its 2011-12 campaign with a home contest against Mount Aloysius College Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Scandlon Gymnasium.

The Lady Monarchs are coming off a successful season 16-10 record.  Their 10-4 record in the Freedom Conference tied them for the top spot in the final regular-season standings.  The Lady Monarchs were tabbed as the third seed in the conference tournament and dropped a 66-52 decision to eventual conference champion DeSales in the semi-finals.

King's returns its top five scorers from a year ago led by second-team All-Freedom Conference selection Celia Rader.  A junior guard, Rader tallied 12.9 points per game to go with 2.8 rebounds and made 60 three-pointers. Paige Carlin brings back her 10.8 points and 4.7 boards per game.

Junior guard Katlin Michaels averaged 9.3 points and 4.9 points per game while senior point-guard Brittany Muscatell turned in 7.8 points and 5.1 rebounds to go with a team high 79 helpers. Junior forward Lindsay Atchison led the Lady Monarchs in rebounding averaging 6.4 boards per game to go with 7.5 points per game.

Last season Mount Aloysius finished 11-14 overalll with an 8-10 conference mark.  The Mounties totalled 1,621 points for an average of 64.8 points per game while allowing opponents 66.6 points. Mount Aloysius was out rebounded 41.7 to 37.6. The Mounties shot .354 from the field and .275 from beyond the arc. 

The Mounties return their top scorer from last season in senior forward Kaylee Keagy who averaged 14.7 points and pulled down 7.7 rebounds per game.  Sophmore guard Lindsy Sammarco added 11.0 points and 3.6 boards per game and made a team high 33 three-pointers.

Teddi Brukett, a sophomore guard, netted 6.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.Another sophomore Ali Maruca keyed the offensive attack with a team high 79 dimes as well as 7.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
