King's College Falls to William Paterson in Opening Round of Stevens Tip-Off Tournament

Hoboken, NJ-- The King's College men's basketball team dropped an 82-66 decision to William Patterson in the opening round of the Stevens Institute Tip-Off Tournament Friday night at Canavan Gymnasium.

The Monarchs (1-1) took an early 12-6 lead with 12:17 to play in the first half after a Tim O'Shea 3-pointer. The Pioneers (2-0) answered with a 9-3 run of their own to tie the game at 15.

Corey Chandler sank a pair of free throws with 2:47 left in the first half to build the William Paterson lead back to seven, 33-26.  King's pulled back to within one, 35-34 on an Ian Oakley jumper, but found themselves down 39-35 at the half.

After the Monarchs scored the first bucket of the second half to cut the score to 39-37, William Paterson went on 22-10 run capped by a layup by Jaques Conceicao with 10:55 left in the game. King's was unable to get the Pioneers lead below double figures the rest of the game.
Sophomore Allen Kuiper led the Monarchs with 14 points off the bench to go with five rebounds. Joe Caffery added 12 points, including shooting 3-of-3 from behind the arch.  Matt Fiorino also chipped in 12 points as well as two boards and two helpers.

Chandler led all scorers with 21 points.  He also tallied six assists, four rebounds and three steals. Femi Agunbiade gave the Pioneers a lift off the bench with 11 points and six boards.  Lance Brown and Conceicao each added 10 points.

The Monarchs will play at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow in the consolation game against the loser of Stevens vs Purchase College game.
