King's Women 4th, Men 6th After Opening Day of Diamond City Swimming Classic

KING'S WOMEN 4TH, MONARCH MEN SIXTH AFTER OPENING DAY OF DIAMOND CITY INVITATIONAL

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's swim team stands in fourth place while the Monarch men are in sixth after the opening day of he second-annual Diamond City Invitational Saturday at the Wilkes-Barre CYC.

In the women's meet, Misericordia was the day-one leader with 476.5 points. East Stroudsburg was second with 450 points, followed by Scranton (433), King's (267), Hood (256), Arcadia (213.5), Marywood (210), and Mt. St. Mary's.

King's 400-medley relay team of Erin McLin, Macawley Brown, Rachel Jonas, and Brigid Wynn set a new school-record with a time of 4:16.86,breaking the time of 4:17.76 set in 2012.  Brown was also second in the 100-butterfly with a new school-record time of 100.99  breaking the previous record of 101.31 set last season. She was also and fifth in the 50-freestyle at 25.90.

In the 200-medley relay, King's team of McLin, Jonas, Wynn, and Brown were fifth with a new school-record time of 1:57.17, breaking the mark of 1:58.20 established in 2012.

Patricia Manning was third in the 400-individual medley at 4:50.22 and fourth in the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:19.03. Wynn was fourth in the 200-freestyle with a 2:04.70 and was also 13th in the 500-freestyle at 5:43.53. Jonas was fifth in the 100-backstroke with a 1:12.12.

McLin was ninth in the 100-backstroke at 1:05.17. King's 200-freestyle relay team of Brown, Manning, McLin, and Marybeth Rudy were sixth at 1:47.78.

For the King's men, the Monarchs ended the opening day in sixth place with 182 points. Scranton held the day-one lead with 588 points, followed by Misericordia (468), Marywood (356), Hood (354), and Arcadia (230), while Mt. St. Mary;s was seventh with 134 points. 

Josh Shoemaker placed seventh in the  100-backstroke with a time of 1:05.30 and was also 13th in the 200-individual medley at 2:10.51. Kyle Newton finished seventh in the 100-butterfly with a time of 56.39 and was also 14th in the 50-freestyle at 23.66. In the 400-individual medley, Justin Weilert was seventh at 4:46.77.  In the 100-backstroke, James McLaughlin was 11th with a 1:01.79.

King's 400-medley relay team of James McLaughlin, Josh Shoemaker, Joe Ciccarelli, and Newton were sixth with a time of 3:55.23. In the 200-medley relay, King's team of McLaughlin, Newton, Ciccarelli, and Shoemaker were sixth at 1:46.19.

Swimming will continue Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the CYC.
