KING'S CAGERS DOMINANT IN 95-71 VICTORY OVER BERKELEY IN MONARCH CLASSIC FINALE, ANDREJKO WINS 200TH AT KING'S

WILKES-BARRE --  The King's College men's basketball raced out to a 51-32 half-time lead and placed five players in double-figure scoring as the Monarchs played perhaps their most complete game of the year with a 95-71 victory over Berkley College in the final game of the Monarch Holiday Classic.  In the process, King's rewarded head coach J.P. Andrejko with his 200th career victory at King's.

With the win, King's improved ro 5-4 and snaped a four-game losing streak while Berkeley fell to 5-4.

The Monarchs came out hot and hit on nearly 45-percent of their shots the first half and displayed outstanding passing in accumulating 11 assists on their 17 buckets in the opening stanza.

With King's holding a 21-14 lead with 10:19 remaining in the opening stanza, the Monarchs closed out the half with a decisive 30-18 run to take a 51-32 lead into the locker room. Kyle Hammonds led King's in the first half with12 points.

The second half began the way the first half ended as the Monarchs stretched the lead to 26 points when a Tom Heston lay-up with 15:56 left pushed the score to 62-36.  The Knights would come no closer than 18 points the rest of the way.

Joe Caffrey led King's with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists while Heston added 17 points and seven points. Both players were named to the all-tournament team for the Monarchs.  Tim O'Shea tallied 15 points and eight rebounds while Hammonds and Connor Hughes posted 12 points apiece.

For Berkeley, Keenan Langston earned a spot on the all-tournament team with 16 points and seven rebounds while Jovan Bovell added 15 points and six boards. Richard Rampersad contributed nine points while Danzel Whyte chipped in with eight points and four rebounds.

King's will now be idle until January 3-4 when the Monarchs compete in the Cross Countty Challenge at the University of Scranton.

SUSQUEHANNA DOWNS WILKES IN MONARCH CLASSIC, CRUSADERS FNISH 2-0

WILKES-BARRE --  Brandon Headley scored a game-high 22 points to earn most valuable player honors as Susquehanna University posted a 66-53 victory over Wilkes-University in day-two of the Monarch Classic on the campus of King's College, Wilkes-Barre.

With the won, Susquehanna finished 2-0 in the round-robin event and improved to 5-3 on the year. Wilkes, which was 1-1 in the event, slipped to 5-4.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half but Susquehanna managed to take a 26-21 lead into the break. The Crusaders came out blazing in the second half and forded a 21-point lead at 42-21 with 14:09 left as the Colonels were unable to score a point during the stretch.  Wilkes fought back and cut the lead to eight points on two occasions but would draw no closer as Susquehanna held on for the victory.

Hedley, who scored 19 points in Saturday'S opening games, totaled 41 points on the twio games.  Harley Sellinger was also named all-tournament after posting nine points and 16 rebounds in the game, following up an 18-point effort Saturday.  Jake Eskin netted 13 points with five rebounds while Steven Weidlich tallied 11 points and three assists.

Wilkes was paced by all-tournament selection Steve Stravinski with 16 points and nine rebounds while Nic Wilkens added 10 points and six boards. No other Colonel player score more than six points.
