King's Swimmers Show Character in Sweep of Mt. St. Mary's, Corpuz Sets School Record

KING'S SWIMMERS SWEEP MT. ST. MARY'S

WILKES-BARRE -- Gabrielle Corpuz set a new school record in the 100-backstroke and the King's College women's and men's swim teams won close heats down the stretch to post an exciting sweep of visiting Mt. St. Mary's College Saturday in Scandlon Gym.

The King's women improved to 5-1 on the year with a 106-96 victory while the men's squad won 107-89 to up its mark to 3-2.

Corpuz, a freshman, posted a 1:03.94 on the opening leg of the 400 medley relay, swimming the backstroke. Along with teammates Macawley Brown, Marybeth Rudy, and Brigid Wynn, King's won the event with a time of 4:19.53.

Corpuz also captured the 200 individual medley by posting a time of 2:21.11 and the 200-backstroke at 2:21.41. Brown won the 50-freestyle with a 1:55.04 as well as the 200-butterfly at 2:19.62. Rachel Jonas was a winner in the 100-freestyle with a 58.80, essentially clinching the match for the Lady Monarchs.

James McLaughlin won the 1000-freestyle with a 11:10.49. Michael Sweeney was victorious in the 200-freestyle at 1:55.04 and scored nine points late in the meet by winning the 500-freestyle with a 5:29.80.

Chris Lukashewski touched first in the 50-freestyle with a time of 23.06 and also won the 100-freestyle at 51.08
Josh Shoemaker won the 200-individual medley at 2:14.71. Matt Dickson picked up nine valuable points in the last individual race, winning the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:28.64.

King's iced the event by winning the last race - the 400-freestyle relay - as Sweeney, Lukashewski, McLaughlin, and Shoemaker posted a 3:30.61
