MONARCH SWIM TEAMS CONTINUE STRONG START WITH SWEEP OF KNIGHTS
NEWBURGH, N.Y. --- The King's College swimming teams continued their strong start to the season with a sweep of host Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y.
The men's team improved to 3-0 on the year with a 121-67 victory. The women's team recorded a 114-81 victory to improve their record to 2-1.
Both teams got off to a strong start with victories in the 200 yard medley relay. The women's team of Noelle Pedersen,
Kirsten Siwy,
Kaelyn Gardner, and
Melina Good finished with a time 1:58.07. The men's team of
Bryce Groshardt,
Rhyce Hammaker,
Christopher Dionne, and
Dan Weekes had a time of 1:41.23.
The Lady Monarchs had the best time in every event raced with multiple swimmers winning multiple events.
Amanda Schwerdtman won two individual events for the women with a season-best time of 11:23.31 in the 1000 yard freestyle and a season-best time of 5:33.29 in the 500 yard freestyle. Siwy won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:03.18 and had the best time in the 200 yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:32.53. Good won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.37 and the 100 yard freestyle with a season-best time of 59.10. Gardner also won two events for King's taking home gold in the 200 yard IM in a season-best time of 2:25.82 and finishing first in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:24.43. Pedersen took home first in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:20.14.
Tyler Higgins took home first place in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:44.16. Groshardt won the 50 yard freestyle in 22.82 and the 200 yard backstroke in 2:06.41. Weekes finished first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.17 and Hammaker took home the gold in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.20.
The Monarchs will return to the pool on Friday and Saturday when they will host a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference teams next weekend. First, they will host Lebanon Valley College on Friday night at 6 before hosting Stevenson University on Saturday at 1.
