Men's lacrosse at King's began in 1998 as the Monarchs fielded a club team for the first time prior to making their 1999 Middle Atlantic Conference varsity debut.
As with any new sport at the collegiate level, King's paid its dues in the early building process but much progress has been made. A tremendous work-ethic has been instilled and the commitment by the players is certain to elevate the program to a higher level.
The Monarchs began a new era in 2002-03 with the hiring of Andrew Orlowski as head coach. A former standout at Elmira College, Orlowski possesses a great passion for the game as well as a tremendous knowledge which has helped the program continue to improve. The Monarch mentor earned Freedom Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2012. Since taking over the program, Orlowski has produced 32 MAC/Freedom Conference All-Stars.
Orlowski's contagious enthusiasm has spread throughout the program continue their upward move. The 2012 squad earned the program's first-ever postseason appearance and placed six players on the all-conference squad including a sweep of the Freedom Conference postseason awards, including "Player of the Year" and "Coach of the Year" honors. The 2013 team reached the conference semi-finals for the second straight year while the 2014 and 2015 squads also reached the conference tournament semi-finals. The Monarchs take great pride in how it has developed the program without cutting corners while creating a culture of lacrosse that includes tremendous family support and involvement
King's competes for an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Tournament as the winner of the Freedom Conference Tournament gains an automatic berth into the championship field.
The Monarchs also have a strong track record for academic success. Since the program began in 1999, King's has had 82 players earn MAC Academic Honor Roll status. In 2014, King's Ed Dowse was named the Middle Atlantic Conferences Men's Lacrosse Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The men's lacrosse program plays its home games at McCarthy Stadium, a 3,000-seat synthetic turf field located in the beautiful 33-acre Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex. Construction of the field was completed in August 2008 and provides the Monarchs with one of the top facilities in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
