KING'S WRESTLERS RING IN NEW YEAR WITH 23-10 WIN OVER HUNTER

NEW YORL, NY – The King's College wrestling team sounded off the new year with a victory as the Monarchs opened the 2010 calendar year with a 24-10 road win over Hunter College in a Metropolitan Wrestling Conference matchup Tuesday afternoon in New York City.

The meet began as 133-pounds and Monarch freshman got King's (3-7) off to a strong start with a 9-3 victory. Senior Taylor Green made it a 6-0 score by earning a 6-3 decision at 157-pounds. After Hunter captured a 6-1 win at 165 to cut the score to 6-3, the Monarchs countered by capturing decisions at 174 and 184. Freshman Dave Foley tallied a close 7-6 verdict at 174 while Frank Marinucci's, who was filling in for injured starter Mike Reilly(13-0), posted a key 3-2 win at 184 to lift King's to a 12-3 lead.

After Hunter won a close 3-2 decision at 197 to close to within 12-6, King's heavyweight John Humble, who was subbing for injured started Chris Rash, earned a clutch 5-0 decision at 285 to push the Monarch lead to 15-6. The Hawks closed to within 15-10 with a major decision at 125, but the Monarchs clinched the match at 133-pounds when senior Tony Miele recorded a first-period pin to give the Monarchs an insurmountable 21-10 lead with one bout remaining. King's added three more points in the final matchup with Frankie Davis garnered a 5-4 win at 141-pounds.

The Monarchs return to the mat Saturday with the Pennsylvania/New York Duals at Lycoming College in Williamsport.
