King's Men's Swimming Ties Arcadia; Falls to Messiah


Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The King's College men's swimming team battled to an 88-88 tie with Arcadia while dropping a 109-81 decision to Messiah on Saturday afternoon at Scandlon Pool.

Michael Sweeney tallied a pair of first place finishes for the Monarchs. He posted a time of 52.91 in the 100 yard freestyle. Sweeney also picked up a win in the 1000 freestyle in a  time of 10:59.16. Kyle Newton picked up a first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in  a time of 1:00.74.

The Monarchs also scored a trio of second place finishes. Dane Darnell took second in the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.73. Justin Weilert posted a 5:36.37 in the 500 freestyle. The team of Newton Sweeney, Weilert and Andrew Reimann finished second in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:37.58.

Matthew Dickson took third place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.36. The team of Newton, Dickson, Darnell and Matthew Thompson finished the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:50.52 good for third place.

The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday when they host FDU-Florham and Lycoming at the Wilkes-Barre CYC at 12:00 p.m.
