KING'S WRESTLERS POST 27-21 WIN OVER SCRANTON
SCRANTON — The King's College wrestling team won three of the last five bouts en route to posting a 27-21 victory over local rival University of Scranton Saturday in the John Long Center.
With the win, the injury-riddle Monarchs snapped a 12-match losing streak, improving to 2-12 on the year.
After the Monarchs dropped the first match at 141-pounds by fall, KIng's senior
Chris Mazzocchi (14-7) evened the match with a pin of his own in 2:07 to knot the score at 6-6. The Monarchs then used a 19-3 technical fall by
Gordon Custer at 157 before fifth-ranked
Tommy Desir improved to 22-0 on the year with a 16-4 major decision at 165-pounds to push the team score to 15-6 in favor of King's.
Scranton scored a 5-1 decision at 174 but the Monarchs rebounded when Shake Stark (12-4) picked up a pin in 1:54 to give King's a 21-9 lead. King's added to the score when
Cemah Tudae-Torboh (8-6) earned a 10-6 decision to up the lead to 24-9. After Scranton recorded a pin at heavyweight to trim the score to 24-15, King's
Jamie Scarantino (10-10) countered with a 12-5 decision to push the King's lead to 27-15. King's forfeited the final bout t 133 to set the final score.
King's will close out its dual-meet season Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. away contest at cross-town rival Wilkes in the Marts Center.
