KING'S FOOTBALL TEAM HOSTING LOCAL RIVAL MISERICORDIA SATURDAY

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College football team will return home to the confines of McCarthy Stadium on Saturday when the Monarchs play host to Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference matchup at 1:00 p.m.

King's enters the game with a 2-3 overall record as well as a 2-2 mark in the MAC. Misericordia stands at 0-5 and 0-4 in league competition.
 
Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $2 for seniors, $2 for non-King's students showing I.D.  In addition, children under age-six shall be admitted free.  King's College students attend free at all ticketed events with the presentation of their current student I.D.

LAST WEEK:    
King's fell to defending MAC champion Albright College 27-7 Saturday in Reading. Misericordia lost at home 48-0 to first-place Stevenson.      
 
ABOUT THE SERIES: 
This is the fifth meeting between the teams with King's holding a 4-0 all-time advantage. This will be the third meeting between the teams at McCarthy Stadium. King's won the last meeting at McCarthy Stadium by a 36-29 score in 2014.                   
 
LAST SEASON'S MEETING:  
Last season King's blew open a 7-7 game at the half by outscoring the Cougars 21-7 in the second stanza to walk away with a 28-14 victory in Dallas. The Monarchs amassed a season-high  179 rushing yards in the game while totaling 347 yards.
 
THE COACHES:          
Monarch mentor Jeff Knarr is in his seventh season at King's and owns a 18-46 career record. Misericordia coach Mark Ross is in his fifth year since becoming the first head coach in program history and is  3-42.
                                                                            
KING'S ON OFFENSE:   MULTIPLE 
King's is looking for an improved effort this week after gaining just 219 yards of total offense against Albright. The Monarchs are ranked fifth in the MAC in scoring (23.6 ppg), sixth in total yards (349.2), and are still first in passing yards (271.0). King's, however, is ranked ninth in MAC rushing with 78.2 yards each game.
 
Junior quarterback Zach Whitehead has completing 58.5 (121-207) percent of his passes for 1,232 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. In his first two games of the season he set new single-game school-records in pass completions (40), pass attempts (63), and passing yards (421), while equaling the King's mark of single-game touchdown passes (4).   Whitehead has also rushed for 201 yards on 46 carries with six touchdowns but 11 sacks has left him with 124 net yards.
 
King's receivers have played well this season. Returning senior all-MAC receiver Mike Palmer has 27 catches for 279 yards and one touchdown.  Junior Tyler Marroni has 26 receptions for 342 yards and one score while fellow junior Marquis Miller has 20 catches for 162 yards. Junior Corey Flynn contributes 10 catches for 147 yards and one touchdown. Ten different King's players have caught at least one pass.
 
In the backfield, freshman Alvonte Thompson has 220 yards on 40 attempts and averages 5.5 yards per-carry while adding nine receptions for 112 yards and one score. Senior Zack Funk has 96 yards on 32 carries with three touchdowns while catching two passes for 10 yards.  
 
KING'S ON DEFENSE:   3-4  
Defensively, King's ranks eighth in the MAC in allowing 34.2 points and is ninth in yielding 445.0 total yards per-game. The Monarchs are ninth against the run in permitting 205.6 yards and stand seventh against the pass in allowing 239.4 yards.   
 
Leading the King's defense thus far is junior linebacker Bruce Damon who tops the MAC with 63 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, and 5.0 sacks. Senior linebacker Bobby Russell, a two-time All-MAC selection, is fourth in the MAC with 53 tackles, two interceptions, and has made 15 and 16 tackles in his last two games. Junior safety Jake Manetti adds 37 tackles with an interception and five break-ups. Senior linebacker Brandon Gonzalez has made 20 tackles while sophomore defensive end Jordan O'Hearn has tallied 20 tackles with 2.0 tackles for loss. 
 
Freshman safety Joe Davis has posted 19 tackles while junior cornerback Justin Foster checks in with 17 stops. Junior linebacker Hassan Maxwell and junior defensive lineman Jacoby Foresman have made 16 tackles each while sophomore linebacker C.J. Curry chips in with 15 stops. 
 
MISERICORDIA ON OFFENSE: MULTIPLE PRO 
The Cougars rank last in the MAC in scoring with 12.0 points per-game. Misericordia also stands last in the MAC in total offense with 236.0 yards per-game. The Cougars are eighth in MAC in rushing (79.2 ypg) and are ninth in passing yards (156.8).

Junior quarterback Brandon Leap runs the Cougar offense and has completed 75-of-138 passes for 778 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 104 yards on 47 carries. Senior running back Ryan Kurtz leads the team with 112 yards on 37 carries while fellow senior Robin Custodio adds 84 yards on 25 carries. Sophomore quarterback Clayton Vleck chips in with 57 yards on 24 attempts with two touchdowns. ??
 
Sophomore receiver Sam Gillison tops the squad with 19 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Colton Pyne also has 19 catches for 228 yards and one score. Junior receiver Mark McMaster has contributed 202 yards on 10 receptions with two touchdowns and averages 20.2 yards per-catch.     
 
MISERICORDIA ON DEFENSE:   3-4          
The Cougars stand last in MAC in scoring defense, allowing 42.2 points per-game. Misericordia is last in total defense in yielding 503.2 yards per-game. The Cougars are last against the run (227.2 ypg) and is also last against the pass (276.0).
 
Heading the defense is freshman linebacker Noah Bard who tops the squad with 48 tackles. Junior linebacker Jordan Aquino follows with 28 tackles while junior linebacker Tyler Collins and senior linebacker Anthony Rand-Willever have both registered 26 tackles. 
 
Rand-Willever tops the squad with 6.0 tackles for loss and one sack. Senior defensive end Cory Dickerson has contributed 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks. Freshman safety Garrett Murray and freshman linebacker Michael Becke have made 22 and 20 tackles respectively.
