KING'S BERNARDO PLACES 3RD, KILPATRICK 4TH IN MONARCH INVITATIONAL

Ralph Bernardo placed third while fellow junior
Howard Kilpatrick was fourth at 165-pounds to emerge as the highest finishers for the King's College wrestling team at the season-opening 2016 Monarch Invitational Tournament Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
As a team, King's finished 11th among the field of 12 teams.

Bernardo won his first three matches to reach the semi-finals. He won his opener 5-2 against Chris Spurlocke of Scranton; then tallied an 11-6 decision over Ryan Riecke of Roger Williams. He then garnered a 2-1 decision against Rob Kelly of Cortland to reach the semi-finals. There he dropped a 3-0 decision to Kyle Foster of Roger Williams to fall into the consolation bracket. There, he earned a 7-3 decision over Stefanos Karpontinis of York but fell in the consolation finals by a 2-1 decision to Adam Patsun of Roger Williams.
Kilpatrick
Kilpatrick won his first three matches, posting a 10-3 decision over Josh Farrar of Cortland State; a 16-0 technical fall versus Patrick Polintan of St. Vincent; and a 3-2 decision over Brett Leonard of Roger Williams. In the semi-finals, however, he dropped a 5-1 decision to eventual champion Blaise Benderoth of New York University. In the consolations, Kilpatrick won his first match 8-3 over Evan Wallace of Oneonta State, but in the consolation finals he faced a rematch with Leonard and was pinned in 1:26.
