KING'S WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY FALLS TO NEUMANN 5-0Â IN FIRST-EVER GAME
PITTSBURGH -- The King's College women played its first-ever game at the Commonwealth Cup in Pittsburgh and dropped a 5-0 decision to Neumann University Friday night in the Alpha Ice Complex.
Despite the loss, King's played a competitive game against an established NCAA Division III opponent that has earned 10 post-season tournament appearances since its own inception in 2000-01.
Neumann took a 1-0 lead 11:36 into the first period when  Angeline Taiarol scored off a rebound following a save by King's goalie Kiva Sierra Stoltz.  The Knights made it a 2-0 game 1:11 later on a goal by Bek Lukas.
After a scoreless second period, Lukas made it a 3-0 lead 1:48 into the third period with her second goal of the game.
The score grew to 4-0 on a Jackie Schneider goal at the 10:38 mark and Mollie Johnson struck net with 1:52 remaining in the contest to set the final score.
Neumann outshot King's 53-19 in the game. Gracen Mahoney led King's with five shots while Indra Wood and Kellie Munro had two shots apiece. In goal, Stoltz was outstanding in her collegiate debut, making 48 saves for the Lady Monarchs.
King's will return to action Saturday when the Lady Monarchs face Lebanon Valley College in the consolation game at 1:00 PM. Lebanon Valley fell to host Chatham 6-1 in the other opening round contest.
