ROCKY MOUNTAIN, VA -- King's College junior Howard Kilpatrick advanced to the semi-finals of the 165-pound weight class at the NCAA Division III East Regional Championships Friday in Rocky Mountain, Va. Monarch teammate Eddie Merrill (197) is the only other King's wrestler still alive.

Kilpatrick (24-6) advanced to the quarterfinals with  7-3 decision over Erik Meyers of McDaniel.  He then moved on to the semi-finals with a 3-1 victory over Jarrett DiGiantamasso of Ursinus.   He will meet second-seeded Nick Herring of The College of New Jersey in Saturday's semi-finals. If Kilpatrick is victorious he will clinch a berth to he NCAA Division III National Tournament.

At 197, Merrill was pinned in 2:32 by Gennaro Cerminara of Muhlenberg in his first match. He remained alive by pinning Maksimili Garkusha in 2:14 in his first consolation match. He will look to stay in contention for third-place when he faces Hunter Goulart of Ferrum in the second round of consolations on Saturday morning.

In the 125-pound class, King's freshman Dakota Quick won his first match with a 11-3 major decision over Ethan Hartman of Washington & Lee. Quick then lost in the quarterfinals to Brenden Velez of Delaware Valley 10-3. He was then eliminated in the consolation round to Jacob Donato of New York University 17-13.

At 174-pounds, Monarch senior Zachary Smith earned a 8-1 decision over Jake Gordon of Muhlenberg. He is slated to meet John Messinger (33-3) of New York University in the quarterfinals. But Smith lost by an injury default in his next match and fell to the consolations. In his next match he was eliminated in a 6-1 decision loss to Corey Markovitch of Ursinus.

In the 133-pound class, junior Jake Daniel lost his first match by a 20-3 technical fall to Dylan Luciano of The College of The College of New Jersey. Daniel was then eliminated 13-4 by Trey Harkness of Ursinus in the consolation round.
At 141, Monarch junior Matt Sparks was pinned in 1:10 by Dylan Van Sickell of Stevens Tech. Sparks then was eliminated by a 3-1 decision to Lucas Escobar of Johns Hopkins.

In the 149-pound class, King's sophomore Tony Immediato was pinned in 3:38 by Collin Saunders of Ferrum. he was then eliminated in a 5-2 loss to Jake Bracken of Gettysburg.

At 157, Monarch sophomore David White dropped an 11-2 major decision to Ray Jazikoff of New York University. White was then eliminated in his next match by fall in 5:53 to Alec Donovan of Centenary.

In the 184-pound class, King's sophomore Nick Price fell to Cody Richmond of Ursinus by a 15-4 major decision. Price was then eliminated in a 10-2 major decision to Rex Hallyburton of Washington & Lee.

In the heavyweight division, King's junior Fjoralb Cekici was pinned in 5:08 by Tate Dulany of Ferrum. Cekici was then eliminated by a pin in 6:44 to Maton Pelig of Ursinus. Cekici was wrestling in place of Monarch standout Ralph Bernardo (18-2) who was unable to compete due to an injury. Bernardo was fourth at the regional tournament a year ago.

Wrestling will resume Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Finals are slated for 1:00 p.m.
