DALLAS, PA (October 6, 2018) - The King's College men's soccer team stayed undefeated in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play with a big 2-0 victory at Misericordia on Saturday night at Mangelsdorf Field in Dallas.
The Monarchs (7-3-2, 2-0 MAC Freedom) scored twice in the first half to take down the Cougars (2-8-1, 1-1 MAC Freedom) for the second straight year. The victory was King's second-ever win in Dallas and the first since 2014 when they defeated the Cougars 3-1 in the Freedom Conference Semifinal.
Misericordia put pressure on King's top-ranked defense early on earning back-to-back corner kicks in the first two minutes. A Cougar foul on the second corner attempt ended the threat. MU, playing in front of a homecoming crowd, recorded the first shots of the match when Dylan Molyneaux had his attempt blocked right before the nine-minute mark. A minute later Jon Caracappa sent a shot wide.
The Monarchs were able to settle down and started to turn the momentum in their favor in the 17th minute as
Fabio Massa put the first shot on goal of the match on a header that Dominic Pizzi saved. Pizzi was needed to make another save on a header by Alastiar Dinnan a minute later.
KC broke through with the go-ahead goal in the 21st minute with
Ryan Romeo's first goal of his career. The junior sent a shot inside the left post from the top of the box.
Abdullah Alsubaie had the assist on the goal following a corner kick by
Alastair Dinnan.
Aidan DeCamillo made it 2-0 in the 35th minute on a give and go with
Liam McLoughlin. The junior put the ball inside the right post for his fourth goal of the year. Tristan Wright entered the match following the goal for the Cougars and immediately made an impact on the field getting off two shots in five minutes. His first shot was saved by
Owen Geedey in net while his second shot went high as the Monarchs took a 2-0 lead into the break.
The Monarchs came out strong in the second half putting four shots on goal in the first 15 minutes.
Fabio Massa took three of the shots and Alsubaie recorded the fourth as Pizzi made four saves to keep the Monarchs from adding to their lead. KC allowed just four total Misericordia shots in the second half with Geedey making two saves.
McLoughlin had two looks at the goal for the Monarchs in the half, but both went wide. DeCamillo had a quality opportunity late for his second goal of the match but Pizzi was able to make the save on his shot.
Romeo recorded his first career goal while Alsubaie had his first career assist on the game-winning goal. DeCamillo scored his seventh career goal while McLoughlin picked up his fourth career assist. Geedey made three saves in net to pick up his seventh shutout of the season, one shy of the King's single-season record. Massa led the Monarchs with four shots taken putting all four on goal.
The Monarchs are now unbeaten in their past five matches with four shutouts. The King's defense has pitched eight shutouts this year.
KC had a 12-8 shot advantage but had an even bigger difference in shot on goal recording nine and allowing just three. The Cougars had a 7-5 corner kick advantage.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Wilkes University at 7 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
