MOOSIC, PA (September 13, 2018) -- Sophomore
Matt Havrilla fired his personal-best round on Thursday afternoon, posting an 84 to finish tied for third as the King's College men's golf team bested Misericordia University 359-408 but was topped by ten strokes by Marywood University in a tri-match held at Glenmaura National Golf Club.
The par-71, 6,339 course was playing longer once again for the second time in three days due to the rain that has covered the area over the last week. The course also forced higher scores on Thursday due to the course having just been mowed, as the excess grass clippings made playing from the rough more difficult.
The course didn't seem to bother Havrilla though, as he posted an 84 to lead the way for the Monarchs. The round Thursday was seven shots better than his previous personal collegiate best at King's, a 91 shot last season.
Junior
Andrew Golden was second among Monarch players and fifth overall with an 88, while freshman
Justin McMillan tied for sixth with a 90. Sophomore
Evan Murphy was ninth overall with a 97, while
Connor Logoyda posted a 101.
James Tressler of Marywood finished as the individual medalist Thursday with an 81, while Johnny Plouffe from Misericordia was second with an 83.
The Monarchs and Pacers will play again Monday afternoon at 1 p.m., this time with King's hosting at Wyoming Valley Country Club.
