GENEVA, NY (January 13, 2019) – King's College women's ice hockey goaltenders
Kiva Sierra Stoltz and
Emma Zeveney combined to make 55 saves in a 10-0 defeat at United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contender William Smith College from The Cooler in Geneva on Sunday afternoon.
The Herons (12-3-0, 10-0-0 UCHC) stayed perfect in conference play with their second shutout of the weekend over the Monarchs (1-14-0, 0-10-0 UCHC). William Smith, who were picked to finish second in the UCHC Preseason Poll, outshot King's 65-18 and used Division III's second-best scoring offense to tally 10 goals on home ice. Six different Herons found the back of the net while 11 different skaters recorded at least one point. WSC started off with three goals in the first period, added five in the second, and finished with two in the third.
The Monarchs played the hosts tough for the second straight night while nearly lighting the lamp multiple times especially in a very strong third period.
Gracen Mahoney found space twice in the second period but her good look on goal was stopped by Olivia Williams both times.
Mary Deyell had an excellent opportunity to score right at the end of the period as Williams made a spectacular save to keep KC off the board.
Kellie Munro was close to scoring in the third period as the Monarchs looked to take advantage of a power play opportunity early in the period. Unfortunately, Williams made three great saves on three great shots by the sophomore.
Caitlin Redden and Mahoney also put shots on goal during the two-minute advantage that Williams kept out of the back of the cage.
KC recorded 12 of their 18 shots on goal in the third period with Munro leading the way with all four of her shots in the period. Mahoney took three of her team-leading six shots while Redden also recorded all three of her shots in the period. Stoltz made 29 saves in the first 35 minutes of the game before giving way to Zeveney who made 26 saves the rest of the way.
Gina Scibetta led the Herons with her first career hat trick and added an assist for four points. Jules Kennedy had two goals and three assists while Julia Mings continued her impressive weekend with two goals and an assist. Abbey Luth added one goal and four assists while Stephanie Hampton recorded three assists. Williams recorded her second shutout of the weekend and fourth of the season with 18 saves.
The Monarchs will continue their tough stretch next weekend as they face top-ranked Elmira College on Friday and Saturday in Pine Valley, NY at the Murray Athletic Center.
