DOYLESTOWN, PA (October 12, 2019) -- Sophomore
Kyle Shalvey led the King's College men's soccer team to their first Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) win Saturday evening, scoring one goal on three shots and adding an assist as the Monarchs defeated the Aggies of Delaware Valley, 3-2. King's improved to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
The Monarchs started the match strong, striking first in the 11th minute when freshman
Dylan Ramage connected on a free kick off of a missed penalty kick for his first goal of the season to give King's a 1-0 lead. Then almost six minutes later, Shalvey scored his second goal of the season off an assist by junior
Nik Verma to give the Monarchs a 2-0 advantage. The Aggies responded with their first goal of the match in the 40th minute by Austin Daniels to make the score 2-1 before the half.
The second half was a battle by both teams, but the Monarchs held the advantage in shots over the Aggies 8-7. Just like the first half, King's scored first on a goal by freshman
Aziz Atiyeh, his second of the season, to give the Monarchs a 3-1 advantage in the 72nd minute. The Aggies were not done yet as they scored the final goal of the match off a penalty kick by Daniels, his second goal of the match, in the 78th minute.
With just 64 seconds remaining, a King's foul gave Delaware Valley a late opportunity to tie the match and force extra time, but a great defensive stop by the Monarchs saw the ball hit the crossbar and roll away as time expired to give the Monarchs their first MAC Freedom victory of the season.
For the match, the Monarchs out-shot the Aggies (21-10) and had more shots on goal (11-7).There were also a combined 35 fouls and 10 yellow cards for the match. In goal, junior
Connor McKeown recorded three saves on six shots faced, while junior

The Monarchs are back in action against another MAC Freedom opponent as they take on the DeSales University Bulldogs on Wednesday evening, starting at 7:00 pm in McCarthy Stadium. They will then be home again on Saturday, October 19 as they host conference newcomer Stevens Institute of Technology at 7:30 pm.
