King's Goes 0-2 in First Conference Doubleheader

CENTER VALLEY, PA (March 16, 2019)The Monarchs finished their first conference doubleheader of the season 0-2 against the DeSales University Bulldogs. It was two very close games as King's College came from behind in the first sending the match into eight innings while the Bulldogs were able to snap back in the second game to take the victory. 
 
Kris Kocher pitched a complete game in the opener with five strike outs, 10 hits and six runs on 41 batters faced. She recorded the first loss for King's putting her at a 2-3 record. Nicole Kirse took the second game for the Monarchs allowing two runs on seven hits and pitching two strikeouts among her 27 batters faced. Her record drops to 0-3. 
 
The Bulldogs scored first at the bottom of the opening inning. There wouldn't be another run until the top of the third when Mindina Lieback doubled to left center drawing in Mackenzie Yori and Lindsey Leppo.
 
The team kept things tight in the field not committing a single error all game keeping the score close, separating the two by just two runs at one point. Gabby Leary clinched the third run of the game thanks to a single by Leppo in the sixth. 
 
The game would tie at 5-5 in the seventh inning after a score by pinch runner Danielle Runo and Gabriella Medina. A scoreless inning took us into the bottom of the eighth with two outs and a Bulldog up to bat. As Hallie Muffley singled to right field, Gianna D'Acunto would bring one home for DeSales ending the game.
 
In the second MAC Freedom match of the day, both teams were unable to get on the board until the fourth inning. Kristi Ann Skok scored the lone run for the Monarchs, her fourth of the season, while also contributing two putouts and six assists on the field. 
 
The run came off a single by Marisa Mauro who advanced to third on Bulldog errors driving Skok to home plate. DeSales scored two runs in the seventh to take the second game.  
 
King's will play a doubleheader at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa. this upcoming Monday, March 18, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
