Yori and Skok Record Season Highs Against Scranton

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 1, 2019) – King's College split their doubleheader 1-1 against University of Scranton tonight, playing one of their best games of the season so far. Monarchs improve to 9-12 and the Royals move to 17-6.

Game 1: King's 3, Scranton 2
The teams went back and forth in scoring as Scranton brought one home in the first inning. King's answered with a run of their own by junior Mackenzie Yori in the bottom of the first, thanks to freshman Kristi Ann Skok.

The Royals took the lead in the top of the third as the score moved to 2-1 and Scranton would remain in the lead until King's went up to bat in the fifth inning.

Another single by Skok would bring Yori in for her second run of the game and tie things up until the bottom of the seventh as the Royals would implement a pitching change.

Sophomore Mindina Lieback followed with a single up the middle to get a critical base for King's and take another on a wild pitch, putting her in prime scoring position. Up to bat was Skok who hit one right into the center field gap, drawing Lieback home to take the victory for game one.

King's registered three runs off seven hits, Skok was responsible for all three RBI's in the game for a career high and making her total for the season ten.

The Monarchs were exceptional in fielding for game one as they only recorded one error among their 21 putouts and nine assists. Five of those putouts and eight assists belonged to Yori for a season high.

Sophomore Nicole Kirse took the circle for King's pitching a complete game and improving her record to 3-6. Kirse allowed eight hits while striking out five of the 33 batters she faced.

Game 2: King's 1, Scranton 4
With Scranton hungry for a win, they would make the first scoring play. The score was stuck at 1-0 for four whole innings before King's would tally a run.

Yori walked in the bottom of the fifth and promptly stole second hoping to tie up the game. It was another knock by Lieback, this time to right field that would allow Yori to make her way around third and over home.

Both teams kept things short, as neither team scored through the next two innings pushing the game into an extra.

The Royals made it on base on an error and would collect an unearned run before junior Kris Kocher stepped in for freshman Gianna Marsico in the circle.

After two back-to-back strikeouts Scranton hit a double and grabbed another two unearned runs pushing the score to 4-1 and ultimately would take the game, holding King's through the bottom of the eighth.

Marsico took her first loss of the season now at 3-1 after seven innings pitched, seven hits and two strikeouts while Kocher allowed one hit and struck out three of her four batters.

Yori has 15 runs total as well as 11 stolen bases after today's games.
