HANOVER AREA (April 11, 2019) -- Junior
Tyler Papura tied his low round of the season on Thursday with a five-over 75, helping lead the King's College men's golf team to an emphatic 322-353 victory over Marywood University in play from Wyoming Valley Country Club.
The 75 for Papura tied with a round at the DeSales Fall Invitational, as his five-over finish was his second-best of the season. The 18-hole team score of 322 was also a season-best, nipping the previous low round of 323 set also back at DeSales on September 20, 2018.
Papura was steady on the par 3's and par 4's, but dominated on the longer par 5 holes, as he posted a two-under score on those holes. He also tossed up a King's best five birdies on the round. Papura was two-under on the back nine going into the 17th, but a double bogey saw him come in with an even 36.
Teammate
Alex Rowan was also strong on the afternoon, as he carded a season-best score of 78, as he tied for the lead on the day in scoring average on par 3's and par 4's. Rowan birdied the par-3 fifth as well as the par-4 ninth to go out plus-4 (38), and finished with another plus-4 on the back nine to finished second overall.
Sophomore
Matt Havrilla has rebounded nicely from last week's spring starting round, improving each round out since last Thursday. Havrilla would fire an 83, posting a birdie on the par-5 11th, while tallying six pars.
The Monarchs would also count the score of
Lyle Luckenbill, who has had a strong start to the spring season as he registered an 86. After recording a 43 on the front, he stayed strong with another 43 on the longer nine to post a plus-7 on the back. Luckenbill chalked up six pars, including four on way in.
Evan Murphy would finish with a 98 for the Monarchs on Thursday, as he played his first round of the spring season. The back nine was much better for Murphy as he settled back into his rhythm, shooting a 46 on last nine holes.
Austin Zahel led the way for the Pacers with an 82, while Joe Webber carded an 84 in defeat.
King's will turn around and take part in the two-day Glenmaura Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, PA.
