Monarchs Collect Two Conference Wins to End Season 19-18

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 27, 2019) – The Monarchs closed out their season 19-18 and 6-8 in conference play as well as honored their only senior, Monica Burda, after winning both ends of their last doubleheader against Eastern University. The team did not qualify for the MAC Freedom playoffs.
 
Game One: King's 9, Eastern 1 
King's started off the game with a three-run inning as Mackenzie Yori, Mindina Lieback and Taylor Norris all collected one for the Monarchs in the first.
 
The Monarchs held Eastern and pulled in another three scores in the next inning as Yori tripled and was followed by Lieback. As Lieback made it to first on an error, Yori was able to slide home. Lieback would make it around the bases and eventually over home after a single up the middle by Gabriella Medina
 
With the score 5-0, two outs and bases loaded by Kristi Ann Skok, Medina and Gabby Leary, Kris Kocher walked bringing in Skok for the sixth score of the game.
 
In the bottom of the third Yori recorded her second triple of the game and second run as well thanks to Lieback that set the score to 7-0. King's would score two more runs in the fourth. Leary and Kocher got on base with a walk occupying first and second as Yori was up to bat again.
 
For her third triple, Yori also tallied two more RBI's as Kocher and Leary were able to make it home. Eastern grabbed a run on a sacrifice fly but would be held by the Monarchs as the game ended after five innings.
 
Kocher was in the circle for King's as her record for the season ends 7-8 as she allowed eight hits and struck out two of her 26 batters.

Game Two: King's 4, Eastern 3
In game two, Eastern sruck first scoring one run in the second and another in the third to put 2-0 on the scoreboard. The Monarchs would answer with a run of their own by Yori in the bottom of the third. Lieback collected the RBI after a single to center field.
 
Neither team would score again until the fifth inning when King's took the lead after a Yori single to center sent home Lindsey Leppo after a single and stolen base placed her at second.
 
Two back to back hits by Lieback and Norris loaded the bases as cleanup batter Skok stepped up. Skok flied out to right ield but was able to collect an RBI by Yori.
 
The Eagles got their last run of the game in the sixth as would the Monarchs to solidify their victory. Senior Burda got to first on a walk before Gena Williams went in to pinch run. Williams pushed to second after Gianna Marsico executed a sac bunt and Leppo stepped up to single out to center to draw Williams home.
 
King's held Eastern in the seventh to finish the game 4-3. Nicole Kirse was in the circle until the Eagels tied it up in the sixth inning before Marsico took over.Kirse pitched 5.5 innings with six strikeouts and eight hits while Marsico got the win ending her rookie season 6-1 after two strikeouts and one hits on eight batters.
