ORLANDO, FL (March 2, 2020) -- The King's College men's tennis team started play on its 2020 Spring Break trip Monday, but the Monarchs were unable to come away with a victory in either of their matches suffering a pair of 9-0 defeats to Trine University (MI) and Saint John's University (MN).
Trine 9, King's 0
The Monarchs (1-5) saw themselves take a 3-0 deficit into singles play, and not much got better as King's dropped its first match of Monday to Trine University, 9-0.
In doubles,
Austin Mackey and
Logan Gregory played some spirted tennis at the top spot, but Drew DIxon and Sid Petersen earned an 8-5 victory to help the Thunder take a 3-0 lead.
In singles, Mackey and Aaron Streit played a back-and-forth affair at No. 1 singles but Streit was able to slip past Mackey for a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Junior
Jason Homschek also played well in the second set at his No. 5 spot against Dixon, but would end up dropping a 6-1, 6-3 match.
SJU 9, King's 0
King's second match of the day was against a very strong Saint John's (MN) team, and the depth showed for the Johnnies as they rolled to a 9-0 win over the Monarchs.
Saint John's (6-0) won all by two games in doubles, but King's would push SJU more in singles especially at the top of the lineup. Mackey and Jarod Swoboda went shot for shot, but the King's No. 1 was unable to earn a victory as he fell 6-2, 6-2.
Newcomer
Logan Gregory was right in his match at No. 2 singles, but Cole Dutko outlasted Gregory 6-2, 6-4, while Hunter Fischer also bested
Nick Harth at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-2.

The Monarchs will return to Tuesday evening, taking on Regis College (MA) at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, FL at 6:30 PM.
