ORLANDO, FL (March 2, 2020) -- The King's College women's tennis team battled Trine University Monday afternoon in their second match of the Spring Break trip to Florida, but the Thunder women were too much for the Monarchs in a 9-0 defeat for King's from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus courts.
The Thunder swept doubles, as King's top pair of
Emily Fernandez and
Alexis Zalutko were bested by Ashley Spirrison and Ellie Cole, 8-3. At No. 2 doubles,
Mikayla Reynolds and
Diana Rodriguez were defeated 8-2, while
Lauren Lamarca and
Addie Atkins dropped their No. 3 doubles match 8-3.
In singles play, Reynolds lost at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-0 to give the Thunder (1-5) a 4-0 match lead, and Trine would clinch the team victory as Trista Savage defeated Atkins 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 6 position. King's played hard but couldn't pick up a set at any singles spot as Trine rolled to the 9-0 win.
The Monarchs (3-3) wil be back in action Tuesday morning, playing a single match against Alvernia University at 10:30 a.m. in Haines City, FL.
