SCRANTON, PA (October 16, 2021) --- The first dual meet of the 2021-22 season worked out perfectly for head coach Matt Easterday and his King's College men's swimming team, knocking off nearby Marywood University 126-50 in action from Scranton, PA this afternoon.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of
Austin Morris,
Kris Boxter,
Andrew Pursel, and
Kyle Altman posted a time of 1:43.98 to take first.
Sophomore
Anthony Ursini started his season off on a high note by dominating the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:37.88, over a minute faster than the second place finisher.
Austin Morris took the win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.93, while
Ryan Bixler notched third place in the event at 1:58.18.
The Monarchs secured the top three spots in the 50 freestyle, with Pursel leading the way at 22.96, Altman finishing second with a time of 23.78, and
Aidan Wilson placing third at 24.76.
Erik Aguero pulled away from the pack in the 100 butterfly with a personal best 57.80. Right behind him was Pursel, who continued his strong day finishing in second place at 59.68.
Aguero also won the 500 freestyle for the Monarchs at 5:28.16, while Ursini finished second at 5:35.92.
The Monarchs continued their winning ways in the 100 backstroke when
Kris Boxter took first with a time of 1:02.97. Morris,
Alex Schwartz, and
Matt Lowry finished second, third, and fourth respectively.
King's would finish off the day by taking down the Pacers in the 200 freestyle relay. The squad of Bixler, Schwartz, Wilson and
Joel Williams won the race with a 1:36.99.
The Monarchs will continue their season next Friday, October 22 at Scranton at 6:00 pm before hosting Cabrini the following day at 1:00 pm.
