Monarchs Suffer Road Loss at #10/#7 Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA (October 9, 2021) -- On Saturday afternoon, the King's College football team dropped its road contest, 48-15, at #10/#7 Delaware Valley University at James Work Memorial Stadium. The Monarchs drop to 2-3 overall, 1-3 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play, while the Aggies remain undefeated with a 5-0 record, 3-0 in the MAC.

King's opened the scoring at the 10:55 left in the first as senior Brendan Mozeleski picked off a pass on first play of the Aggies drive and returned it 35-yards for a Monarchs touchdown. Kyle Prescavage came on and converted the point-after attempt, giving King's the early 7-0 lead.

Two drives later, the Aggies got on the board as Daquan Bohannan connected with Nahsir Morgan from 46-yards out and after the point-after attempt the Aggies had tied the game, 7-7, with 2:41 left in the first quarter.

Delaware Valley went on to score 35 more unanswered points in the half, leading King's, 42-7, at the halftime break.

Both teams went scoreless through the third quarter, but the end of the period saw the Monarchs taking advantage of two big Aggies penalties to extend their drive. King's converted a 13-play, 67-yard drive capped off as Tekoah Guedes found Brennan Robinson for a four-yard touchdown reception with 12:09 to play, Monarchs trailing 42-13.

The Aggies scored one final time in the game on the very next possession, stringing together a 10-play, 69 yard drive over the next 7:54 of play. Mozeleski delivered again for the Monarchs, blocking the point-after attempt and returning the ball 90 yards to add two more for the Monarchs with the Aggies leading, 48-15, with 5:47 left.

King's had one more shot to put points on the board on the next drive, converting four first downs, but a goal-line stand by the Delaware Valley defense put a stop to the Monarchs drive. The Aggies would run out the final 12 seconds on the game clock to hand King's the 48-15 loss in Doylestown, PA.

Tyler Moore connected went 4-for-10 for 11 yards with an interception, while Guedes completed three passes on seven attempts for 29 yards and a touchdown.  Guedes also led the Monarchs run game with 40 yards on 15 carries, and Robinson totaled 39 yards on five rushing attempts. The King's receiving core was led by Tim Costantino with 13 yards on a reception, while Michael DiGregorio went for 12 yards on his lone reception of the game.

The King's defense saw three record a team-high five tackles, including Mozeleski, Teone Sherrod, and Colin Hazleton, with Mozeleski recording 2.0 tackles for a loss of four yards and Sherrod adding 1.0 tackles for a loss of two. Dallas Solomon posted three tackles, including 1.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sacks for two yards. For the special teams, Gabe Boccella returned four kick-offs for 41 total yards, adding a game-long return of 19 yards, and Costantino totaled six punts for 158 yards, averaging 26.3 yards per punt.

Delaware Valley was led by Bohannan with 19 completions on 28 attempts for 183 yards, four touchdowns, including two rushing, and an interception. Donte Simmons led the run game with 10 carries for 70 yards, while Morgan totaled three catches for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Three Aggies recorded seven tackles in the win led by Michael Nobile who added 3.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

As a team, the Monarchs rushed for 83 total yards on 39 carries and connected for 40 yards and a touchdown in the air for 123 yards of total offense in the game.

The Monarchs return home to McCarthy Stadium next Saturday, October 16 as they host Albright College. Kick-off in Wilkes-Barre, PA is set for 1:00 p.m.
