WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 9, 2021) --- The King's College men's soccer team put up a strong effort on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium, but Stevens Institute of Technology came out on top 3-2.
The Monarchs scored the first goal of the contest in the 15th minute when
Buck Diacont recieved a cross from
Aziz Atiyeh and placed his shot perfectly into the left side of the net, leaving SIT goalkeeper, Aedan Boriotti, no chance. The goal marked Diacont's third of the season.
The Ducks responded quickly in the 25th minute when Sean Ryan scored on an assist from Cristiano Hocken. Stevens found the net again less than four minutes later when Hocken found Adam Silva who beat out King's goalkeeper,
Cole Catherman, to give SIT a 2-1 lead.
Justin Decoteau nearly scored in the closing minutes of the first half, but Boriotti managed to get a diving hand on the shot to keep the Ducks up by one going into halftime.
The Monarchs created the first opportunity of the second half which led to a shot from
Shane Serio. The effort was headed for the top left corner, but Boriotti was able to push it over the crossbar for a King's corner kick.
Nate Horn managed to get a shot off of the corner kick but his effort missed wide right. Silva scored his second goal of the match in the 64th minute to give the Ducks a 3-1 lead.
Pat Holton scored his first goal of the season for KC in the 81st minute when he headed a ball into the left side of the net off a well placed free kick from
Liam Yair. The score brought the Monarchs within one with just under 10 minutes remaining.
Aidan Oyler saw the last chance of the match for the Monarchs in the 86th minute, but his shot was saved by Boriotti.
SIT outshot King's 21-10, including 8-5 on frame. Catherman finished with five saves in goal for the Monarchs, while Oyler led the squad with three shots.
KC will look to rebound on Wednesday night when they host MAC Freedom foe DeSales University at 7 pm in McCarthy Stadium.
