WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 14, 2021) ---
Evan Egnatovich and
Liam Yair each scored their first career goal to give the King's College men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Keystone College on Tuesday evening at McCarthy Stadium.
The win for the Monarchs (2-1-0) was their first at home this season while handing the Giants (3-2-1) their second loss this year.
King's started the match as the aggressors as
Kevin Kolaski fired off the games' first shot in the sixth minute and forced a save out of Keystone's goalkeeper Erick Gomez. The Giants saw their first action of the match in the 19th minute when Franck Rutabara ripped a shot over the crossbar. The following ten minutes saw a defensive battle as both sides struggled to create good looks on goal. King's decided to press the action and make four substitutions with just over 17 minutes remaining in the first period. This decision payed off in the 40th minute when substitute
Evan Egnatovich scored his first career goal on a perfectly placed header that came off of a dime from
Dylan Domchek. The Monarchs would carry this 1-0 lead into halftime.
Keystone created the first opportunity of the second half as Mathias Trujillo missed wide left only a couple minutes in. King's answered quickly by earning back to back corner kicks in the 50th minute that led to a shot from
Alex Showalter just missing on the left of the goal. Just 10 minutes later
Liam Yair made is presence felt by taking the ball away from the Giants and burying a shot from the top of the 18 yard box into the bottom right corner. This goal marked the first of his career.
Keystone would make things interesting eight minutes later when Hernan Godoy scored after a corner kick to bring the Giants within one. The Monarchs continued to fight hard on the defensive end as Keystone initiated the attack to try and level the contest.
Pat Hughes was called into action in the 77th minute when Ibrahim Bangoura launched a shot his way but the King's goalkeeper cleaned it up to keep the Monarchs on top. King's would go on to win the match 2-1.
The Monarchs held a 14-13 shot advantage in the game.
Kyle Shalvey led King's with four shots, while Hughes contributed five saves in net to pick up his second win of the season.
King's will look to build off of this momentum with another home contest on Saturday when the host SUNY New Paltz for Homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm at McCarthy Stadium.
