Men's Swimming Suffers First Loss of the Season Against Cabrini

RADNOR, PA (October 22, 2022)-- Coming off a win the previous week over Marywood, the King's College Monarchs men's swimming team dropped their road opener to the Cabrini University Cavaliers 128-42 on Saturday afternoon. With this loss the Monarchs are an even 1-1 on the season. Cabrini meanwhile starts out the season 1-0.

The first men's event which the Monarchs took part in was the 100 yard freestyle where Cabrini sophomore Chris Labianco won with a time of 11:00.28 over King's senior Erik Aguero at 11:09.95.

The next men's event was the 200 free where sophomore Andrew Pursel finished in second with a time of 1:56.54. Cabrini junior Matt Seifried won the event by posting a finish of 1:53.68 while King's sophomore Anthony Ursini finished in third at 2:01.85.

In the 50 free, junior Michael Gray of Cabrini finished in first with a time of 22.42. Monarch senior Ryan Bixler and sophomore Joey Slish finished in third and fourth places with times of 23.22 and 26.53. In the 200 yard individual medley first year Blaze Graham had a time of 2:13.77. 

Following these events came the 100 butterfly where Bixler finsihed in second with a time of 59.11 and Aguero in third at 59.61. Seifried won that event for Cabrini at 57.84. The Monarchs had another second place finish in the 100 free where Pursel completed the event at 51.26 behind Cabrni's Mac Granto whose time was 50.64. Graham was fourth with a time of 54.69.

In the 100 back, Bixler's third event of the day, he posted a time of 1:05.35. Ursini's best finish of the day came as a second place finish in the 500 free. He completed the event in second behind Tommy Ronayne of Cabrini with a time 5:23.77. Slish also competed in the event and had a final time of 6:03.28.

Pursel rounded out the individual events for the Monarchs on the day with another second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke. His final time in the event was 1:07.56.

The final event of the afternoon was the free relay which was run by Ursini, Graham, Slish and Aguero. As a team the Monarchs final time was 1:40.28. Graham swum the fastest of the squad at 23.08 in the event.

The men's swimming team will be on the road again next Saturday for their first quad-meet of the season at Widener University in Chester, PA. The meet will start at 1:00 p.m. They will also face Hood College and Messiah University.
