SCRANTON, PA (February 12, 2022) -- The King's College wrestling team picked up a big win over Keystone, 36-9, at the Scranton quad match on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs also dropped a tough battle with the host Royals, falling 24-22.
In their opener against Scranton, the Royals earned two early wins at 125 and 133 to lead 12-0. Then, first year
Noah Clawson earned his fourth technical fall win of the season at 141, 20-2, in 5:58 over Scranton's Brandon Judge to put the Monarchs on the board, 12-5.
Junior
Robert Zelinski kept things rolling at 149 with his second pin of the season in 4:38 over the Royals Ethan Wilson, inching King's within 12-11. Fellow-junior
Colby Spencer earned a 3-2 decision at 157 to give the Monarchs a 14-12 advantage, before Scranton earned wins at 165 and 174 to take the 21-14 lead.
At 184, junior
Billy Grace earned big points for King's in a 10-1 major decision victory over Hunter Marhan before first year
Jason Sine put King's ahead, 22-21, with a major decision win at 197 over Stephen Murphy. Scranton pulled off the comeback with a decision at 285 to hand King's the heartbreaking 24-22 loss.
King's found their rhythm in a solid team win over Keystone in their second matchup of the day. First year
Kyle Miller started the match up strong with an 11-7 decision over Kenny Santiago at 125 before junior
Gus Petruske IV and Clawson earned back-to-back pins at 133 and 141 to build a 15-0 advantage. Petruske earned his seventh pin of the season in 1:45 over Derek Torres, while Clawson completed his second pin in an impressive 13 seconds over Clayton Shaw.
At 149, Zelinski earned a 9-4 decision followed by a
Colby Spencer win at 157 as the Monarchs built a dominating 23-0 advantage. The Giants got on the board with a decision win at 165 before senior
Kade Kravits recorded his eleventh pin of the year in 2:04 over Christian Micikas to lead 29-3.
King's went 2-for-3 in the final three weight classes as Grace earned a 3-0 decision at 184 and Sine won by a 12-4 major decision as the Monarchs defeated the Giants, 36-9.
The Monarchs have one more matchup to end their 2021-22 regular season on Thursday, February 17 at home in McGrane Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. against cross-town rival Wilkes before they prepare for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, beginning on February 25.
