McClanahan Scores in Women's Ice Hockey Loss Against SUNY Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, NY (Nov. 28, 2023) - - Charlotte McClanahan scored the King's College women's ice hockey team's only goal of the game in its 7-1 loss to the Morrisville State College on Tuesday evening at the Mustang's home rink, Morrisville IcePlex, in a nonconference matchup. The Monarchs are now 2-8-0 overall this season.

Despite not scoring in the first period, the Monarchs showed resilience on defense as they held back the Mustangs from scoring until the thirteenth minute of the game. Morrisville State then scored its second goal of the game just prior to the clock hitting 17 minutes, which ultimately gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead going into the second period. King's goalie Hayley Packer still managed to save 14 shots in the first period alone.

McClanahan's goal came just under two and a half minutes into the second period after the Mustangs had a 3-0 lead. Morrisville State scored it's third goal of the day just two minutes into the period, however the Monarchs retaliated quickly scoring their first goal just 23 seconds later. McClanahan's goal was assisted by Abby Barlocker. Packer tallied 20 more saves, and King's only gave up one more goal in the second period to give the Mustangs a 4-1 lead going into the final period.

King's held off Morrisville State for over six minutes before the Mustangs found the back of the net for a fifth time. They scored their sixth goal around the 15 minute mark and their seventh goal at 16:15 in. Morrisville State won the game with a final score of 7-1 over King's.

Packer finished with a season-high of 41 saves in 56:15 minutes of play, while Aspen Wallin and Emma Bessa had two blocks on defense. Issy Lebrun won 10 faceoffs, followed by Maddie Vaughan with six, who also tallied four shots while Emma Dos Santos had three.

The Monarchs will take a break before hitting the ice again Jan. 5 and 6 back at home in Revolution Ice Centre for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) and United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) two-game series against Stevenson University. The teams will play on Friday Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. and Saturday Jan.6 at 2 p.m.
