Joe Carchio surpassed the 250-career tackle milestone, and
Russell Minor-Shaw put up another incredible stat line as the King's College football team defeated Stevenson University, 16-8, to pick up their first win in Owings Milles since 2013. The Monarchs improve to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), while the Mustangs drop to 6-3 with a 5-3 conference mark.

A scoreless opening quarter saw both teams overcome some offensive struggles and miscues before Stevenson (6-3, 5-3 MAC) broke through and put a successful 40-yard field goal on the board to hold a 3-0 advantage with 9:30 left in the half. King's (7-2, 6-2 MAC) responded with a lengthy drive that resulted in a 27-yard field goal form
Dylan Manna to tie the game with 1:7 remaining. Both teams punted on their final drives of the half, heading into the break in a 3-3 draw.

The host Mustangs started the half strong, tacking on a 38-yard field goal to regain their 6-3 lead with 12:03 to go in the third, and after a share of empty drives, the Monarchs got the first touchdown of the game as
Jayon Hailey's 27-yard run set up a 28-yard touchdown from Minor-Shaw as King's took their first lead of the game, 10-6, with 5:21 to go in the third.

Two offensive drives later, a 31-yard reception by
Tyler Carey and a few short plays allowed Minor-Shaw to run it in from three-yards out for his second score of the game as King's held a 16-6 advantage with 9:31 remaining. The Mustangs recorded a safety to close within 16-8, but on the next Mustang drive,
Amir Gibson intercepted the first pass of the drive, and the Monarchs ran out the final 4:08 of game clock to secure the 16-8 MAC win at Stevenson on Saturday afternoon.

Minor-Shaw completed 19 passes on 31 attempts for 223 yards while rushing 32 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Hailey added 50 rushing yards and four catches for 43 yards, while
Mike DiGregorio had 71 yards on seven catches and Carey added 53 yards in the air.

Defensively, Carchio surpassed the 250-career tackle milestone as he led the defense with eight total tackles, including six solo, with 1.5 tackles for a loss of six yards, 0.5 sacks for three-yards lost, and a break up.
Jassiem Lettsome and Dallas Solmon both added five tackles with Solomon posting 2.0 sacks for a loss of 11 yards. Gibson was huge in the pass game, break up two passes with his interception, while
Zach Barber also disrupted a pair of passes.

On special teams,
Anthony Prato punted four times for 142 yards with a long of 42, while
EJ Schreiner returned two punts for 17 yards and a kickoff for 25 yards.

The Mustangs were led by Nyaire Wilson with 127 yards on 11 completions, while Louis Clouser ran for 55 yards on 17 carries. Both Jaiheem Henderson and Kevin Smitson posted 45 receiving yards, while four different Mustangs posted seven tackles in the loss.

As a team, the Monarchs out gained the Mustangs, 440-178, while holding a 217-51 edge in the run game and a 223-127 advantage in the passing game. King's went 2-for-3 in the red zone and 2-of-2 on fourth down while also converting five times on third down and limiting the Mustangs to 5-for-16 in their own third-down attempts.

King's looks to finish the 2023 regular season strong at McCarthy Stadium next weekend, hosting Alvernia University on senior day and Veteran's Day Appreciation Day. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
