WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 18, 2023) --- The Kings's College women's ice hockey team's season came to a close as the Monarchs fell to Alvernia University 5-0 on Saturday at the Revolution Ice Centre. With the loss, King's finishes to 2-21-2 overall, 0-18-2 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference play, and 0-8-2 in MAC play, while Alvernia improves to 12-10-3 overall, 11-8-1 in UCHC action, and 8-2-0 in MAC action.

It was a back-and-forth affair to start, as Alvernia (12-10-3, 11-8-1, 8-2-0) fired off the first two shots of the contest, forcing sophomore
Syd Dahl into two early saves. King's (2-21-2, 0-18-2, 0-8-2), responded with their first shot at 3:40, as graduate student
Issy Lebrun's shot was turned aside. The teams traded chances before the Golden Wolves opened the scoring at 14:06 on a goal from Olivia Gilida, to give Alvernia a 1-0 lead after the first period.

The teams traded opportunities to begin the second period, but neither team broke through. Alvernia eventually added to their lead midway through the frame, as Gilida picked up her second goal of the game at 9:57. The Golden Wolves scored twice more in the period, at 12:06 on a goal from Amber Steinhilpert and at 16:08 on a goal by Julia Franklin to take a 4-0 lead heading into the third period. Late in the third period Fiona Stewart found the back of the net at 19:12 to give the Golden Wolves the 5-0 win.

Dahl finished the season, stopping 35 of 40 shots, finishing with .899 save percentage, the best single-season mark in program history. First-year
Olivia McTavish led the Monarch attack, tallying three shots on goal. King's won 21 of 49 face-offs, led by sophomore
Jordan Dittmar who won six of 11 draws. The Monarchs went 2-4 on the penalty kill and did not receive a power play in the contest.

Julia Beaven got the start in goal, stopping all 12 shots faced in the contest. Offensively, Alvernia were led by Gilida and Sydney Bradley who both recorded three points, two goals and an assist and three assists respectively. The Golden Wolves went 2-4 on the power play in the evening.
