Novicki's No-Hitter Sends King's to Sweep over Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA (April 2, 2023) -- Emily Novicki threw the scoreless no-hitter in game two to lead the King's College softball team to the sweep in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) doubleheader, handily defeating Delaware Valley 12-1 in five innings of game one and 3-0 in game two. With the sweep, the Monarchs improve to 10-8 and 3-1 in the MAC Freedom, while the Aggies fall to 5-16-1 and 0-6 in the conference.

Game 1 – W, 12-1 (5 Innings):
The King's (10-8, 3-1 MAC Freedom) offense exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth on their way to the 12-1 in the shortened game one with the Aggies. Delaware Valley (5-16-1, 0-6 MAC Freedom) struck first as they tallied a run on two hits in the bottom of the first, but the Monarchs answered with a run thanks to a leadoff single from Molly Gillette and a pair of fielder's choices to tie the game after the top of the second.

The Monarchs tacked on another run in the top of the third behind a leadoff walk from Bailey Loyack and a defensive miscue from the Aggies to hold a 2-1 edge after three innings. Three more runs crossed in the fourth as Kiersten Krouse, Olivia Krupski, and Harley Sullivan all posted hits to see the King's lead increase to 5-1.

King's delivered the dominating final blow to Delaware Valley in the top of the fifth, plating seven runs on a pair of hits from Molly Gillette and seven walks as the lead swelled to 12-1. The Monarchs defense limited the Aggies to without a hit in the final four innings of play to secure the 12-1 win in the opener.

Gillette posted a dominant 3-for-4 effort with two RBIs and two runs, while Kiersten Krouse went 1-for-2 with three RBIs two walks, three stolen bases, and a run. Additionally, Krupski drove in two and scored twice, while Loyack tallied two runs and two stolen bases. Brandi McIntosh secured the win, giving up just one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Carly Mahal and Madison Donnelly recorded hits, while Kenzie Boyd scored the lone Aggies run in game one. Bailey Smith was awarded the loss as the starter in 4.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits while walking seven.

Game 2-  W, 3-0:
Novicki recorded her gem in game two, while the King's offense used a three-run second inning to post the shutout in game two. King's found a rhythm in the second as Gabby Visconti reached on an Aggies error and Novicki reached on a hit by pitch. Another Delaware Valley error on a bunt from Colleen Shuler allowed both base runners to score to put King's ahead, 2-0. A triple from Krouse plated Shuler to see King's increase their lead to 3-0 after two innings of action.

Novicki and the Monarchs defense put on a show in the final innings of action, allowing just three base runners to reach safely across five frames, to help secure the 3-0 win in the no-hitter shutout over Delaware Valley.

Krouse went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Loyack, Sullivan, and Visconti also recorded hits in the win. Novicki's gem came in the complete 7.0 inning game with three strikeouts.
