POTSDAM, PA (November 1, 2024) – The King's College women's ice hockey team fell 3-0 to the Bears of SUNY Potsdam Friday night at Maxcy Ice Arena. The Monarchs begin the season with a 0-1-0 start and hand the Bears their first win of the 2024-25 campaign, making them 1-0-0.
Potsdam's Rebecca Cain struck first for the Bears with an assist from Josie Purdy 3:01 into the first period.
Aspen Wallin received a penalty for holding at 4:04, resulting in a power play for Potsdam. The Bears extended their lead to 2-0 with a power play goal by Rachelle Cain with assists from Jalynn Castro and Rebecca Cain at 5:28. Senior goalie
Syd Dahl had 14 saves for the Monarchs in the first period.
In the second, the Bears were charged with four penalties: too many players on the ice at 3:53 and tripping by Alessia Marandola at 6:00, Jessika Bullock at 14:31 and Taylor Swamp at 19:55. The Monarchs were unable to capitalize on the power play opportunities, leaving the 2-0 score standing going into the second intermission.
With assists from Marandola and Rebecca Cain, Victoria Proulx scored an even strength goal for the Bears to extend the lead to 3-0 at 3:49 of the third period. Josie Purdy was charged with two cross checking penalties in the final 20 minutes, the first at 9:42 and the second at 16:26.
Through 60 minutes,
Brighton Wallin led with five out of 15 shots taken by the Monarchs.
Jordan Dittmar tallied nine faceoff wins and Dahl had 37 saves in net for King's.
The Monarchs are back in action next Friday, November 8 as they play Wilkes at Toyota SportsPlex at Coal Street Park at 2 p.m.
