Monarchs Drop Road Contest to Blazers

HAGERSTOWN, MD (DECEMBER 6, 2024) – The King's College women's ice hockey team fell 3-0 to  the Blazers of Hood College on Friday night at the Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex. The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) loss moves the Monarchs to 2-6-2, 2-3-2 in conference play as the Blazers improve to 3-8-0, 1-6-0. This is their first conference win of the 2024-25 campaign.

Dakota Ormiston started the first period in the penalty box after being called for tripping at 8:17. Averi Reider got the Blazers going with a goal at 12:29 with assists from Renata Petrella and Lillian Scardicchio. Syd Dahl recorded 13 saves through the first 20 minutes.

After Kayla MacKinnon was penalized for tripping 1:00 into the second period, Reece Gall scored an unassisted, short handed goal at 1:52. Sofia Ancona was called for hooking at 12:58 and Aspen Wallin for tripping at 19:26 with time carrying over into the third. The Blazers led 2-0 going into the second intermission.
A slew of penalties came in the final 20 minutes as Samantha Faatz was called for roughing and Maddie Vaughan for abuse of officials, both at 8:45. MacKinnon was penalized for boarding at 9:46 and Sammi Stead for slashing at 11:57. Caroline Kittell scored an unassisted, empty net goal at 18:09 to seal the win for the Blazers.

Syd Dahl recorded 35 total saves in net as Jordan Dittmar went 12-10 in faceoffs.

Women's ice hockey will return to action in the new year as they will travel to SUNY Morrisville for an exhibition game being held on January 4 at the Morrisville IcePlex. Puck drop is set for 1 p.m.
