Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

After Tough First Period Women's Ice Hockey Falls 5-0 to Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY (Feb. 21, 2024) - - King's College women's ice hockey historic 2024 season has come to a close after falling to Nazareth University 5-0 this evening in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Tournament Quarterfinals at the Golden Flyers' home rink, Tim Horton Iceplex. The Monarchs end the season with a 5-20-1 overall record, 4-15-1 UCHC record, and 1-7-0 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) record.

The Golden Flyers hit the ice ready to attack tonight as they scored their first goal of the match up quickly within the first two-and-a-half minutes of play. The Monarchs played tough defense to prevent them from scoring again for another eight minutes before Nazareth found the back of the net again at the 10:54 mark. The Golden Flyers scored again just under four minutes later and again for a fourth time around a minute later to end the quarter with a 4-0 lead over King's.

Despite a tough first period, the Monarchs bounced back defensively and did not allow the Golden Flyers to score once in the entire second period. Goalie Syd Dahl had 20 saves for King's in just the second period alone. The Monarchs also had a majority of their shots tallied in the second period as well, but despite their efforts on offense, they were unable to find the back of the net. Nazareth continued to lead 4-0 going into the final 20 minutes of play.

The Monarchs continued to battle until the very last play in the third period. As they continued to play strong on defense, Nazareth only scored once in the final period just over six minutes in to end the game with a final score of 5-0 over King's.

Dahl tallied 19 saves in the third period to finish with an impressive 59 overall. King's also tallied 14 blocks as a team and was led by Ani Quindipan with three, then followed close behind by Brighton Wallin with two. Issy Lebrun also led the Monarchs with 8 faceoff wins.
