SCRANTON, PA (April 8, 2024) -- The King's College men's golf team opened their spring season slate on the road against the University of Scranton and Misericordia. The Monarchs split the matchup by defeating the Cougars 357-379 and fell to the Royals 357-296 on Monday afternoon at Glenmaura National Golf Club.
On the par-71 course, Scranton's Gehrig Shannon took first place with a score of 72 (+1). Danny Harding and Jack Novis evened at 74 (+3) for the Royals. Scranton earned the last two top spots as both Liam Burtis and Juliano Nieto tied with a score of 76 (+5).
JP Gilroy (Jr.) led King's with a round of 79 (+8) to take sixth place. Misericordia's Bret Herman carded a score of 87 (+16) and Silas Morrison followed with 88 (+17) to place eighth.
Jackson Grozelle (Jr.) was one stroke behind Morrison for the ninth spot with a score of 89 (+18) and
Alexander Ray earned tenth with 93 (+22). The Monarchs'
Cameron Jones (Fy.) collected a score of 95 (+24) and
Michael Kaleta (Fy.) wrapped up the King's golfers with a score of 96 (+25).
The Cougars took the last three places as Nick Kirkessner carded a score of 101 (+30), Jack Hopkins ended the afternoon with 103 (+32), and Chris Pagan rounded group with a score of 110 (+39).
The Monarchs are back home at Wyoming Valley Country Club on Wednesday, April 10th to take on cross town rival Wilkes and Lycoming with a scheduled tee time of 1 p.m. The squad will have a weekend rest before hosting Misericordia on Monday, April 15th and will tee off at 1 p.m.
