Late Goal Lifts Mustangs Over Monarchs

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 28, 2024) -- The King's College men's soccer team narrowly fell 1-0 to Stevenson, moving the Monarchs to 3-3-2 and the Mustangs to 2-4-3. This was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Through the first 45 minutes of play, King's outshot Stevenson 6-4 but were unable to convert, sending the teams into halftime with a 0-0 score.

In minute 63, Mustang Connor Mullin was issued a yellow card after sharing some words with Monarchs Trevor Jones and Saul Lagunas Jr. Six minutes later, in the 69th minute, another yellow card was issued to Stevenson's bench for keeping the ball away from King's during a throw in.

As time began to expire, Stevenson's Gianfranco Vitella fed the ball to Bryant Seivers who was able to place it past King's goalkeeper Ben Vanvalkenburg with five seconds left in the game. Stevenson secured their second win of the season with a 1-0 final score.

The Monarchs are back in action this Wednesday, October 2 as they host cross-town rival Wilkes University at McCarthy Stadium at 7 p.m.
