Monarchs Go Undefeated at Scranton Duals on Saturday Afternoon

SCRANTON, PA (February 8, 2025) -- The King's College wrestling team went 4-0 at the Scranton Duals on Saturday afternoon in the John Long Center. The Monarchs (12-7) defeated Lackawanna 48-12, dropped Hunter 46-9, and stood victorious against Utica 51-6. The squad ended the day with a 36-16 win over Scranton.
 
vs. Lackawanna, W – 48-12
Patrick Horvath started the day off strong with a pinfall win over Edward Lauritsen in 1:27 at 125. Nick Germano gained a victory due to a forfeit by the Falcons at 133. At 141, Jacob Torres fell to Matt Gashi-Brito in 2:20. Shane Kibler pinned John Almonte in 1:05 during their 149 matchup. Jordan Bentley fell to Connor Ondeck at 157 in 3:18.
 
Alex Ballantyne (165), Coltyn Sempko (174), and Jake Bobersky (184) took forfeit victories. Josh Brown dropped Adan Salazar in 2:53 at 197. Nick Valenzano took the last win in a forfeit to grant the Monarchs a 48-12 victory over Lackawanna.
 
vs. Hunter, W – 46-7
In the 125-weight class, Patrick Horvath pinned Juan Tucubal in 2:14. Nick Germano was lost to Botensky Bazuzile in a 9-2 decision at 133. Noah Clawson was victorious in his 141 battle as he pinned Komiljon Ismoilov in 3:11. Shane Kibler dropped Jayden Madina in an 11-2 decision at 149. In the 157-weight division, Justin Riello pinned Jordan Bentley in 3:53.
 
Nick Costello brought back the momentum with a 2:53 pinfall over Jack Kent at 165. Coltyn Sempko (174) and Jake Bobersky (184) were granted wins due to forfeits by the Hawks. Richard Fronheiser competed at 197 and pinned Jevin Torres in 2:25. At heavyweight, Nick Valenzano dropped Abrulrahman Khaldi in 0:50.  King's won 46-7.
 
vs. Utica, W – 51-6
Patrick Horvath picked up his third win of the day at 125 by pinning TJ Monahan in 1:50. Cole Anderson defeated Logan Banks at 133 in 1:31. Jacob Torres won his 141 bout against Billy Beseth in a 13-3 major decision. Shane Kibler pinned Matt Bonato in 1:35 at 149. Bret Murphy was victorious in his 157 match against Anthony Kelly by pinfall in 0:49.
 
Nick Costello was edged by Seth Richardson at 165 in a 5:50 pinfall. Jacob Hachtmann dropped Andrew Mikel in a 20-4 technical fall at 174. Jake Bobersky (184) and Richard Fronheiser (197) won by forfeits in their respective weight classes. At heavyweight, Nick Valenzano pinned Seth Northrop in 1:10. The Monarchs remained victorious 51-6.
 
vs. Scranton, W – 36-16
Patrick Horvath remained unbeaten at 125 after a 17-2 technical fall victory over Mark Ortiz. Cole Anderson defeated Charles Arobone due to a medical forfeit at 133. Noah Clawson pinned Orion Newell in 1:03 at 141. Shane Kibler celebrated a 13-2 major decision win over Shkeb Nadir at 149. Bret Murphy dropped Aidan Veirun at 157 in 1:06.
 
Nick Costello lost his 165 matchup to Donnell Young in a 21-6 technical fall. In the 174-weight division, Coltyn Sempko fell to Jacob Burgette in a 15-0 technical fall. Jake Bobersky collected an 18-5 major decision victory over Charles Kitching at 184. Richard Fronheiser dropped Jack McCaffrey at 197 in a 17-1 technical fall. At heavyweight, Max Schnipes pinned Nick Valenzano in 1:58. King's won 36-16.
 
The Monarchs competed in 10 exhibition matches. At 141 Angel Avalos pinned Utica's James Post in 4:40, dropped John Almonte of Lackawanna in 2:45, and fell to Utica's Terrence Walden in 2:34. Brian Hopkins fell to Utica's Terrence Walden in a 5-4 decision and came back to defeat Marco Milankovic of Utica in a 22-7 technical fall at 149. Taylor Burton battled at 165 but was pinned by Jake Rudy of Scranton in 3:32. Alex Martinez was pinned by Scranton's Timothy Carbonaro in 1:53 and by Scranton's Joseph DelReal in 6:15 at 174. Alex Ballantyne split his 165 matchups as he went on to gain a 4-2 decision win over Scranton's Logan Donato and was defeated by Jake Rudy of Scranton in an 18-2 technical fall.
 
King's will finish the regular season on the road with a matchup against Stevens at 7 p.m. on February 11th and will battle cross town rival Wilkes on Friday, February 14th at 7 p.m.
