NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 13, 2025) -- The King's College softball team swept their final two contests in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with a pair of shutouts, dominating Immaculata University 9-0 in five innings in game one before topping Dickinson College 2-0 in the night cap. The Monarchs will begin their journey up the coast with a 3-3 overall record.
Â
vs. Immaculata – W, 9-0 (5 Innings):
King's (2-3) came out firing in their first game of the day. Immaculata (1-2) put a runner on base in the bottom of the first, but with the runner in scoring position
Emily Novicki settled in to her dominant performance, fanning the third out of the inning.
Â
In the top of the second, the Monarchs plated two on four hits as
Meghan Marianelli and
Alyssa Fox led off with singles before
Cadee Munjone walked to load the bases. An outfielder error drove in Marianelli, and a fielder's choice brought home Fox to give King's the 2-0 edge early.
Â
Novicki then struck out three-of-four batters faced in the second to set up the explosive top of the third for the Monarch offense.
Harley Sullivan doubled to lead off and scored on an outfield single by
Paige Bergan. An infield error scored Bergan before Munjone,
Colleen Shuler, and
Megan Matsko all hit singles to tack on two more runs with the bases loaded.
Kara Krouse doubled to plate another two, and a ground out from
Jess Perella added another to push the score to 8-0. With two outs, Sullivan doubled again in the inning as the lead swelled to 9-0 after the top of the third.
Â
The King's defense remained steady in the next two innings, allowing just two hits down the stretch to secure the 9-0 win in the shortened contest.
Â
Krouse went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a double, a stolen base, and a run, while Sullivan matched her 3-for-4 effort with a run and an RBI. Fox scored twice and stole a base as well to pace the offense. Novicki improved to 2-0 on the season in the five-inning outing, allowing just four hits while fanning eight. She also ties Kris Kocher with 268 career strikeouts to move to third all-time.
Â
Four different Mighty Macs recorded a hit in the setback. Aubrey Seider picked up the loss as the starter, giving up nine runs on 12 hits.
Â
vs. Dickinson – W, 2-0:
Each team had a pair of hits in the first inning, but neither could capitalize. After a quick second inning, King's (3-3) made their push in the top of the third. Krouse legged out an infield hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Perella. Three consecutive singles by Sullivan, Bergan, and Marianelli plated Krouse and left the bases loaded with just one out. Fox drove in Sullivan to give the Monarchs the 2-0 edge after three innings of play.
Â
Both defenses locked in, and there were just four total hits in the remainder of the game as the Monarchs rolled in their 2-0 victory over the Red Devils.
Â
Krouse and Sullivan each went 2-for-4 with a run, while Bergan and Fox drove in a run each.
Courtney Grogan earned the win in the complete-game effort, securing the scoreless outing with just five hits allowed and striking out five.
Â
Five different Dickinson batters recorded a hit in the loss, while Eden Blanker hit a double. Emory Hadden collected the loss as the starter, throwing the first 3.0 innings and giving up both earned runs on seven hits.
